MLB 8/11/02
These plays are posted in order of strength
1.Montreal/Milwaukee over 8.5 -120(Best Bet)
HP umpire Mark Wegner has called a game over the total 8 out of the 11 times two right handers have faced each other. In addition he has called 9 out of 12 NL games over the total. Milwaukee pitcher Sheets has got shelled in his last two and while Yoshii is a honest pitcher he is coming off a complete game. Normally a pitcher coming off a complete game doesn't raise a caution flag but Yoshii is not known for a great deal of stamina, the extra work might leave a little worn. This one shouldn't have a problem going over the total.
2.Atlanta Braves -130(Very Strong)
I am sure this will be a popular play seen around the forum today! Obviously the Braves have the pitching edge, but I believe they will also have the bullpen edge. Although I lost on the Braves yesterday I was glad to see them stage a bit of comeback to force the Stro's to have to go their bullpen. The Stro's were forced to use Borbon Jr.,Stone,Dotel, and Wagner last night while the Braves let the likes of Lopez,Holmes, and Lightenberg eat up innings. If Milwood pitches 6 quality innings and the Braves touch up Milicki for a few the Bullpen should seal the deal. Hp ump Hohn has called 7 straight unders so both pitchers should benefit from the larger strike zone.
3.NY Mets even
Pedro Astacio for the Mets is on fire! He is pitching like their stopper right now! Finley on the other hand has been inconsistent at best. I know his divorce is heating up and maybe that has finally started to affect his mound duty. It was reported he had to skip a start against the Marlins a couple of weeks ago to handle matters of his divorce. We must remember these guys are human beings and their personal problems can cause a distraction on the field. The cards are still not playing well and while the Mets are not on fire Astacio is! I'm taking the Metropolitans
4.Texas/Clev under 11.5
This play is strictly based on HP ump Terry Craft who has yet to call a game over the posted total this year. The pitching matchup in this game is not ideal for an under bet but a larger strike zone should help. Nagy has pitched better as of late for the Tribe and Wickman's activation from the DL should strengthen the pen. Myette for Texas is a young pitcher with good stuff who has been very rocky to date. Hopefully Craft will make the difference today!
5.Cincinatii/Padres over 10.5 -120
HP ump D. Scott has called 3 overs in row. He is also called three straight overs when you see Lefty X Righty matchup. San Diego throws out Bobby M. Jones who is an honest arm out of their pen. Jones has pretty good stuff but he is not counted to go long and will probably be gone by the sixth. He also is the type of pitcher that will get touched by the time Reds have faced him for the second time around the batting order. Reds pitcher Moehler looks like his conditioning might be coming a factor. Moehler threw lights out when the Tigers activated him from the DL half way through the season. It is apparent from his last couple of outings that missing Spring training and half the season has finally caught up to him. The bullpens should factor in early today and the total should pass over 10.5
6.Phillies +148(Longshot Special)
This game is a story of two pitchers going in different directions. Wolf has pitched damn good lately and Perez has started to fade in losing his last 4 decisions. We all know Perez would have been a -200 fav earlier in the season. Perez keeps tacking innings to his career high and I just think he is more vulnerable to get touched than he was earlier in the season. Neither team has had problems scoring runs so I am going with hotter pitcher and the nice price.
All feedback is appreciated!
