Been lurking here the last couple of weeks, and like the input/opinions from y'all, so I thought I would share a bit...and I also have some questions.
Made my first bet on an NFL game in about a year yesterday, taking the Browns with the points. Had I known Nolan liked the game also, I might have bet more. What time do your picks show up here, anyways, Nolan? And do you still do your internet radio gig? If so, you should promo it along with your stuff in the free picks section.

Football season is about the best time of the year for me. On Sundays, I have a standing date with my wife of nearly 17 years to go check out the games at a local establishment, a regular neighborhood type place, that has multiple satellite dishes and 18 TV sets in a roughly 30" x 60' area. Everybody knows everybody, we have strip cards going on the games, the proprietor puts out a nice spread at halftime of the early game, everything is good on Sundays.
My wife, however, has a problem. She's a Vikings fan. After Randy Moss', ahem, "indescretion" this past week, she was reticent to go out in public wearing her Moss jersey, knowing the type of flack she would receive. We tried to pick up a Culpepper shirt, to no avail, as the fashion-concious spouse wants a white road jersey, not easily attainable on demand outside of the Twin Cities.
But, Sheri is quite a sport, and decided to wear Randy's new "prison number" (which we determined to be 8675309, for additional comic relief) taped over the 84 on her jersey. I also took a couple of mug-shot-style pics, and printed them out to hang up in the bar. Check them out:

Well, she got a lot of laughs, but while viewing the late game, she had enough, and ended up turning her jersey inside-out and repudiating the whole Vikings' team. Ahh...fair-weather fandom...who'd a thunk it?
Good luck picking,
Frank Brabec

On the course!
After the game last night, Randy was asked by a reporter the following:

Randy......You missed a few catches tonight that seemed catchable. Namely, the one that went right through your hands above your head, in the endzone. How do you explain that one going over your head?

Moss: Lookie here.......I jumped for that ball, but since the cops in Minnesota took my stash, I couldn't get "high" enough.

:D :weed:

After the game last night, Randy was asked by a reporter the following:

Randy......What would you do if you were driving down the road and saw a woman with your jersey on with prison numbers covering your regular number ?

Moss: Uhhhhh....... push her down the block ?
Give me a easy one will ya ?

Frank:

It is good to see you here at MadJacks. Your presence and contributions here are LONG overdue. For those who do not know, Frank is a very knowledgeable Chicago-area gambler (horses and poker specialist) who I have great respect for.

Regrading your points and questions, you will see that there are MANY very talented people at this site. I'm down the list here so far as picking winners. You might want to look at the Forums and gather information that way.

About the radio show -- I sure wold like to go back to doing it. That was a lot of fun. I haven't done it since last year. But my top priority to to produce winners and make some money. I did the show mainly for fun and entertainment (you know how fun it is to talk about gambling and football -- hell, we went three hours on just about every show). I should get a group of us here at the site and do a revolving guest segment each week. There are many people where who would be great guests.

Glad to have you here. Please don't stay silent.

Frank-

I think Nolan answered the question I had above. Obviously you are the same guy that used to give Arlington results. I used to go to early bird betting before work every day and tune in to your results show on the drive home...there would be times I'd be cursing you when I had the first two legs of a Pic 3 only to just miss in the last leg. I'm curious to hear your opinions on the Breeders Cup.

Re: Valuist
Yeah, that was me, results and next day scratches, stretch calls, and sometimes an interview. You shouldn't really have been cursing me, you know it was the jockey's fault!:)
Covered the whole Chicago thoroughbred circuit, though, not just Arlington. Was a casualty of the infighting amongst the track owners, as Sportsmans stopped sponsoring the show after I took a job running the Hawthorne press box.
Also was in a couple of papers with my thoroughbred picks. That's a real grind, as you don't have the time you'd like to put in on each race, due to the newspapers' deadlines. Did have a nice Arlington meet in the Racing Times, with a $2.19 ROI for the meet. That'd be tough to do now, as the big winner for the year was a first-time turf starter that paid @$110, which I got off the turf breeding. Now, everybody has those numbers, and there goes another little piece of your edge.
As for the Breeders' Cup, havent done much work on it yet, but will be glad to share my opinions as BC Day approaches.
Re: Nolan
Nolan characterizes me as a "Chicago-area gambler." Hell, I don't like to gamble, I like to win! I'm always looking for a wager where I have some sort of edge, and if you have a positive expectation, it's not gambling, is it?:)
Not that I won't gamble *small* sums for fun, or to have a little action. I can recall being in Las Vegas a couple of years ago for our annual internet poker players convention, and standing in the sportsbook of Binion's Horseshoe. I often bet the Cubs when in Vegas, as you can get 3 hours of action for $10 or $20 or $100, and believe me, that's better value for your dollar than trying to put it through a slot machine, for one horrible example.
Anyways, Nolan comes up behind me, and asks me who I like. When I told him I was betting the Cubs, but just for fun, he checks the line, and opines that he likes the Cubs too, walks up to the window, and gets down. I place my bet right after him, turn around, and see about seven or eight of our poker buddies in line, saying stuff like "Hey, Nolan and Frank like the Cubs...we'd better bet too!"
Gawd, talk about a lot of weight to be carrying. Fortunately, the Cubs win it 3-2 that day in the ninth inning, and a pleasant time was had by all.
Good luck picking,
Frank Brabec

Frank--

Don't be afraid to post on the Horse Racing Forum. We don't have too many members that go over there. BTW, the rail at Hoosier was a concrete highway last night.

Frank: I am a constant browser and sometimes poster. I had to post due to the sameness of our last names. I'm up here in Minny (please no Moss jokes!). Look forward to your posts and insight.

I'll be adding info when I got something good.

Now there is a statement that we should all rally around. The edge is what we can attain. that and a positive outlooks sounds like the real deal .
