I think he’s better than most democrats, but I have a hard time supporting somebody that is ok with trans surgery on children. He also is an advocate for gun control.

Not sure why there can’t be a Democrat or Republican that doesn’t toe the party line?? Maybe a Republican who thinks Roe vs Wade should be left alone or a Democrat who has common sense and is against children getting genital surgery/hormones. Maybe a republican who is a constitutionalist or is for universal healthcare or maybe a democrat who supports gun rights? That would be refreshing. I hate the partisanship.

Thank you for the response. Can you please provide a link (to a reputable news source) where he states that he's ok with trans kids getting surgery? All I can find is that "Talarico has not publicly provided a detailed, personal opinion on specific surgical procedures for minors." Although he has argued against legislation that would make it illegal. His personal opinion may be (and probably is) against those procedures, but he thinks it should be up to the parents and doctors. You know, the people who actually know the kid in question. Which, honestly, is the same as my opinion. I think it's insane for children to have surgery like that (and borderline insane for adults, but that's a different topic). Being personally against something and thinking the government should ban it are two completely different things.

As for the second part of your response... that's easy. George Washington warned against it in his farewell address. The two-party system, which has led to hyper-partisanship, is the culprit. It's getting harder and harder for a moderate to win a primary. Using your example, can you imagine a Republican who is fine with Roe vs Wade winning a primary? In fact, I'll bet there are dozens of Republicans in Congress who have paid for abortions or had abortions themselves. But they sure can't say that publicly. The candidates need to be to the extreme left or extreme right to even advance to the general election. A lot of these candidates, if they didn't have an (R) or a (D) next to their name, wouldn't get many votes. The more I read about ranked-choice voting, the more of a convert I'm becoming. It forces candidates to cultivate votes in the middle of the spectrum. But getting rid of the two-party system may be the only real solution.

Between the hyper-partisanship and unlimited money in politics (thanks, Citizens United!) this country is in a lot of trouble. But, hey, every empire falls eventually. We had a good run.

And as for the two knuckleheads and their non-responses... yeah, that's exactly what I expected. It was a question that would require you to... actually think. I figured that was asking a lot. I thought maybe they would explain exactly where in the bible it says abortion is bad or that they should hate brown people from other countries.

I am still waiting to hear from Mr. Super Jesus Lover Himself, oldmansrt. I'm sure he can explain why Talarico is wrong. And probably evil.

Smitty, when I read about him, I found what you did re: trans kids surgery/letting parents and doctors decide/voted against legislation to stop it. I think the big problem I have with this viewpoint is that we are talking about children. Adults can do whatever they want, and idc about the ridiculous decisions they make. However, There has to be a higher standard with children and protecting them against willfully maiming themselves with hormones and surgery. If you aren’t against it, then you’re in favor of it. Maybe in the future, historians will be so puzzled this is even being discussed.

I’m an equal opportunity hater. I think Trump is a terrible president and nobody has ever told as many lies as him nor been as corrupt in making himself and his family ultra rich by manipulating the stock market and the world in general. He’s a bully and a chicken hawk. He’s not a Christian. That’s bs.

I couldn’t stand Biden or Kamala either for a multitude of reasons. I don’t ever seem to find any candidate that I like and who I think isn’t corrupt. I’m so sick of being forced to choose the lesser of two evils. It’s embarrassing, and it’s dumbfounding to me how so many people cannot see the lies, the corruption, and currently the distractions such as Maduro and Iran (anything to take focus away from the Epstein files).

I’m just a redneck from the South, but I can think for myself. I can admit when I’m wrong. I’m a constitutionalist, and that means NOT picking and choosing the ones that suit your personal interest like so many in politics do. Do we think ICE is abiding by the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th amendments for US citizens? Is Trump (who wants to take Kimmel off the air in addition to many other rights violations. Imagine wanting to manipulate the FCC into disallowing free speech. How absurd)? Do the Dems abide by all of them? Why are we attacking Iran? My mom/Fox News/many people I encounter on a daily basis say bc their leader killed 40,000 of his own citizens. Why do we care about that!? Why is it our job to interfere? How would we feel if a foreign power attacked us bc of something we might do? Do I think the Iranian regime is terrible? Absolutely! Didn’t this happen back in the late 70s/early 80s? Are we going to go back the corrupt Shahs now? What a disaster.

I could go on and on, and when Biden was in power, I was just as disgusted on a daily basis.
