It's all semantics. The bottom line, (and the majority of those that have served in the military will agree on this), is that there is no need for police forces to have access to paramilitary equipment to police a civilian citizenry. That and all the weaponry that they've been using to attack the protesters. Those are the primary targets of "defunding." All of that money alone would be better served on social services for the respective communities.
As an aside, have you seen the "rubber bullets" that they're now using? These projectiles are a far cry from that paintball-sized bullets from the past. YIKES! Not to mention that tear gas is not even allowed in warfare.

Arrest those committing crime in a lawful manner. Period. Why is that such a hard concept for you to understand? And before you go off again, the law does allow for the use of force - but ONLY as much as required in a certain situation. Cops are not allowed to beat someone's ass because they feel like it, as you poignantly insinuated.
Go ahead, try to convince a judge or anyone who knows anything about the law that firing rubber bullets and using mace and tear gas on the ones peacefully protesting is not unlawful. lol
