This guy is having an incredible year. Talk about a player who realistically looked at his situation, and really made something of himself. 4-4 tonight, leading the Twins (hopefully) to another win. Not sure where this team would be without Young and Pavano right now.

Go Delmon! :00hour

Funny timing, but the announcers on the Angels game are talking about Young right now echoing your sentiment. They are saying how the Twins were slammed for trading Garza but the deal does not look so bad anymore. As you point out, it's a good story that both Young and Pavano were both looking like they were wasting their talents, and now they have the Twins on their backs. So many athletes disappear once they start the negative slide, it's good to recognize the ones who can turn it around.

You guys remember this in 2005?

Devil Rays farmhand Delmon Young, the 2005 Minor League Player of the Year and top prospect in the minor leagues, has been suspended indefinitely for flipping his bat into the chest of a home-plate umpire in a Triple-A International League game last night.

The incident occurred in the first inning as Young's Durham club played the host Pawtucket Red Sox. With two runners on and none out, Young struck out looking on a 1-2 pitch and argued the call with the umpire. Young walked away, still jawing with the umpire, and finally was ejected from the game.

The ejection prompted Young to flip his bat toward the umpire. One observer who spoke on condition of anonymity said that while Young didn't flip the bat hard, he clearly intended it to hit the umpire.

Yes, and it was exactly what I am talking about. Unlike the backup QB of my favorite team, Young appears to be talking his career seriously and has changed his act. As someone who slams ultra talented athletes like Vick who piss away their abilities, I think Young deserves some credit for turning it around.

Yeah, that's all I think of when I think of the guy. And to be honest, I'm surprised more people don't mention that incident when they talk about him. I realize it's been a few years but something like that should never be lived down, IMO. He may very well go on to have a great career, but all I'll ever remember him as is the punk ass who hit an umpire with his bat.
