What reason do I believe we went to Iraq? Honestly, I'm not sure. Probably not the best authority on that. I think it could be any number of reasons. I honestly do not think, knowing what we know now, that terrorism and 9-11 are the reasons. That's my opinion, but I sure don't know. And according to the administration, it was not to liberate the people of Iraq - that was not mentioned early on, it was just a good talking point to make them look better later on.
I think Iraq is a very strategic place for our interests to be a part of, if not totally control. That makes some sense to me. But that certainly does not give us the right to just go in and take a country carte blanche.
Just some random thoughts to your question. Bottom line: I don't know.
