no,not the action...just the phrase....

""The House Armed Services Committee is banishing the global war on terror from the 2008 defense budget.

This is not because the war has been won, lost or even called off, but because the committee’s Democratic leadership doesn’t like the phrase.

A memo for the committee staff, circulated March 27, says the 2008 bill and its accompanying explanatory report that will set defense policy should be specific about military operations and “avoid using colloquialisms.”

The “global war on terror,” a phrase first used by President Bush shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., should not be used, according to the memo. Also banned is the phrase the “long war,” which military officials began using last year as a way of acknowledging that military operations against terrorist states and organizations would not be wrapped up in a few years.

Committee staff members are told in the memo to use specific references to specific operations instead of the Bush administration’s catch phrases. The memo, written by Staff Director Erin Conaton, provides examples of acceptable phrases, such as “the war in Iraq,” the “war in Afghanistan, “operations in the Horn of Africa” or “ongoing military operations throughout the world.”"

and this just came down the pike from britain...

Britain stops talk of `War On Terror`

""Cabinet ministers have been told by the Foreign Office to drop the phrase 'war on terror' and other terms seen as liable to anger British Muslims and increase tensions more broadly in the Islamic world.

Other critics said that it was too 'military' and did not adequately describe the nature of the diverse efforts made to counter the new threat.""

they can`t put off easter vacation to hack out funding for the troops...but,they have the time to throw together a 15-page document entitled "style guide for defense authorization report"?........

it`s all the fault of those cowards back in 1942.....don`t you remember?...

"congress mandates that there is no "world war II" only a war in europe, a war in north africa, operations in the south pacific, operations in the north pacific, hostilities in asia"..........

maybe we can rename the terrorists "unhappy bunnies"...

whew....i`m glad that`s all over with...thank you dems....

"the bunker"
"attempt to manage the behavior of the ill tempered on this sphere"

very good,i.o....lol

they`re always making the slippery slope argument....and then what do they do?...

start banning words... banning phrases...banning thoughts...

this is the same educated bunch that thought reducing the water tank storage of a toilet from 3 gallons to 1.5 gallons was a great idea....of course, everyone had to flush their toilet 4 times to make it work, doubling the water waste.....

but hey, it doesn't matter the outcome....it's how it sounds that's important...

so,if it`s more important how we re-phrase this thing,then.............change the whole tone of the thing....maybe,

"the war against infidel-phobics"?....."putting a depends on terror"?....

:em38:

peaceful inner struggle against ickiness

This is the second reference I've seen here - again, the dynamic duo of weasel and wayne - that are critical of the dems for taking a vaction over Easter, or some such thing, mimicking their leader who criticizes the dems for being irresponsible in not "hacking out funding for the troops."

This line of thinking is as whacked out as any I have seen from you guys. The only thing more laughable about you guys talking about dems "going on vacation" is when Bush - the record setting vacationer - talks about it. It's common, as it has been for all legislators, to take a break this time of year to go back and speak with their constituents and work on representing them, meetings, etc. It's actually a big part of their job, but that is only important right now for the President to use it - and you guys, as well - as a political slinging of BS mud.

Although I think you know it, I'll mention that it's pretty common knowledge that the Pentagon can move funds around to continue to fund battle operations, it's been done before, and will be again. Conservative estimates maintain it would be at least three months before current and ongoing operations would be jeopardized at all, so that's more BS. Plenty of time for both sides to, um, "hammer it out."

Finally, the TRUTH of the matter is, the democrats HAVE done the work of the majority of the American people in a responsible way, by PASSING (both the Senate and House) legislation that extends funding of the war, as the administration requested. What they have added to the mix is forcing the administration to face the reality of what the majority of American people want, and acting on what they were put in office to do. The President and the administration refuses to budge on ANYTHING, as always, and will not work on this in any way, shape or form. So, I commend the dems for standing up to the position that a minority of people, and elected officials believe is the right thing to do. And I'm happier still to see them step up the cause by bringing stronger legislation on the heels of these bills, which will make it even more clear where the minority stands.

By the way, isn't BUSH going on vacation, too?

You guys crack me up...in a very sad way.

It doesn't have anything to do with that subject, it has everything to do with your above quote and drive by shot at vacationing and hacking out funding. Clear enough for you, oh dynamic one? Believe me, I realize how difficult it is to reference back to your posts and go down all the twisty, turny roads you lead us on...
