Looking at maybe doing one soon with bone graft. If you have had one, I would appreciate any info you can--procedure, cost, -how many visits-do they work, etc. Thanks

My dentist does not do them but had me visit 2 he recommended--one at $3000 and the other at $2000-my insurance will pay approx 50%:shrug: :scared

It's the way to go. If I had to have a root canal done I'd consider extracting it and placing an implant. The reason is that when a root canal is done, they need to put a crown on it but they put it on living tooth. Which...can still get new decay, the root canal can fail, etc-
Once the implant integrates with your bone, that thing isn't going anywhere. You need to pay for the grafting, the implant, and the crown itself that screws into the implant. Depending on your area probably 3k-4k. But, if you look at the long term, it's actually cost-effective if you can take the hit now. Like I said, once the actual implant integrates with your jaw, the thing will not move. What can happen over time is the crown that screws into it, if it's porcelain which it probably will be, can fracture- So for a big picture, the only real maintenance may be the need for a new crown itself. But, the implant will remain.
The only reason I would not consider an implant is if you are a smoker. The success rate drops considerably, blood flow is not as good in the mandible/maxilla and the implant has a high chance of failing to integrate into the bone-

Thanks everyone--not a smoker. Got some time on this so just want to go thru all options. No pain now but will be. The tooth now has a crown and a a root canal. Some infeciton deep in the gum. Will need a bone graft.

dental, vision and hearing are options that can be elected as optional benefits under most but not all health insurance programs.

Not you KOD. But Americans in general. You pay for what you value- Gripe about a 1200$ crown that you get 5-10 years out of. But hey, new 400$ phones every other year? 1200$ per year on the cell phone service- 500$ IPads, etc.

Most Kentuckians opt for getting the tooth pulled. Should run you about 50 bucks. Just throwing it out there.

Dental implants go in stages. Try and divide up each stage between different years so you can get the insurance to max out for two years. Also perhaps have a plan with a higher max before you start. Get my email from Jack if you have more questions.
