Desktop Theme is screwed up......

Somehow...despite all the antispyware I have running...something took over my desktop theme. It changed to some advertisement but all my icons were visible and everything worked fine with no lost performance. I right clicked my desktop and properties which indicated my desktop theme was being directed to a web site....I deleted this and the advertisement disappeared. The problem is...my theme is now white with the icons in their normal color...checking the properties again..it is still trying to go to a nonexistent web site. Ive tried changing this in the control panel under display but nothing seems to work. I've also scanned with AdWare, Bazooka, WinPatrol, GIANT antispyware, & CWshredder...can't find anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks...that found a couple of more but didn't fix it...I also went back over some old posts here and tried every spyware program that was suggested to no avail.

Interesting...in the task manager...if I kill the explorer function..the bad theme goes away and the one I want returns...however all the icons disappear.

This thing is driving me beserk!! KMA had suggested on another thread to start up in safe mode before scanning.....I ran three seperate antispy programs that picked up a couple of more but still did not correct the problem.

I'll keep you posted

What site are you being directed to??? That's sometimes a big clue and might be an easier way to tackle the problem before trying more involved things.

I am getting so sick of this spyware, lieware crap invading our
computers.

Its all about the money.

The pay people to attach their stupid ads etc to try to influence
our buying decisions.

This is how you fix it....can't believe it was so simple.

1) go to control panel and select "display"

2) select the "desktop" tab

3) select "custimize desktop" tab

4) select the "web" tab

5) remove any item in the panel

6) click ok, apply... the usual exiting procedures
