The Democratic party has officially sunk further down into the toilet..... No ideas, no plan, only whining, complaining, crying, and obstructing......

-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid shocked everyone yesterday on the Senate floor when he said it would take a "miracle" for Democrats to win enough races next year to take back the Senate.

"I would like to think a miracle would happen and we would pick up five seats this time......I guess miracles never cease."

What's classic is Reid is the highest-ranking elected Democrat in the country!! :mj07:

Brian Nick, spokesman of Natl' Republican Senate Committee said it best------

"After listening to Reid's political spin about judicial nominees for the last several weeks, it is good to hear him come back to reality -- if even for a brief moment."

"Senator Reid can do the math:
A Democratic Party + no ideas + obstruction + over-the-top partisan rhetoric = continued minority."
 :mj07:

Enjoy your continued minority you liberals...you only have yourselves to blame!! :brows:

I expect some more whining, crying, fingerpointing, moaning and complaining from the wacky liberal left after this thread so I hope you guys have some fun with it. I wont really be here to read responses, just wanted to throw the liberals a bone to chew on over their lonely weekend. ENJOY! :thefinger

What I'm trying to figure out.....after the current administration runs the country down the drain, who in thier right mind is going to want to step in and clean up the whole mess that is being created/not taken care of?

The only plus right now is the guaranteed 100% retirement pay they voted in for themselves.

George leaves in 2008 to chop wood and spend his under the table earnings, and will leave the legacy of Iraq to the next president to clean up.

Fact is the grandkids are buried, regardless which politic party you choose to embrace.

Wouldn't count them out and we need 2 party system for checks and balances. I think the dems have pretty good game plan.
You Dean pulling in the liberal--Move on/Air America base and your going to have Hillary try and portray herself (as predicted earlier) as a conservative pulling in the Middle of the road Dem base.

Only downside is I expect the Rebs will give Dean the scream a very high public profile and attack Hiliary on the flip flop issue that killed Kerry.

"....we need 2 party system for checks and balances."

Great thought but it doesn't work when they're all partners in crime.

Need more public control on how funds are spent, independent auditoring to weed out all the fraud and corruption.....more or less the fox is watching the henhouse and they can do most of whatever they want.

I am sure Charlie would have loved to see the filibustering rules raped in the Senate. Fortunately the Grand Oil Party sensed that the public knew they were trying to rig the game and change the rules to their favor when it suits them and they backed off.

that "independent auditing" would be independent for all of a week or so

soon, we would just have another corrupt government organization

seems like if one party can filibuster, another party can end the filibuster

The current rules allow them to end a filibuster with a 2/3 majority but they wanted to change it to a simple majority which destroys the filibuster option.

Has anyone seen the commercial against the propsed filibuster changes? It's sort of a Monty Python type animation with elephants trampling all over Washington DC. Pretty funny.

looks like it only takes 50% to change it to a simple majority to end filibuster

i dont see any difference in using your power to change the rule or using your power to filibuster

Freeze,

Here is the deal :

The filibuster is a device left to the minority party to hold up legislation - one of those tempering mechanisms that makes the Senate what it is, a more deliberate body. But there is also a device that prevents a SMALL minority from stopping progress. Thus the reason that a filibuster can be "busted" by a 2/3 majority.

Obviously if the rules are changed so that only 51% are needed to end a filibuster then there really IS no filibuster option for a large minority.

Furthermore, if people start changing the long-established RULES every time they get a majority, then there may as well be no rules at all. This is patently obvious to most anyone.
If it takes 51%

The Constitution has ammendments, but it doesn't change the basic rules of Congress like this proposal is.

Face it, this filibuster change is nothing more than a power grab by the Republicans. They think that because they have a so called mandate, that they now have the authority to change established rules for their short term benefit.

Doesn't this bother decent Republicans?

PROI90 you maybe right about Feingold.
As for desperate Dem's. It looks like all they have to do is stay still. Bush and guys like Delay are doing enough to help the Dem's. I have a hunch Reb's wont change the rules either. They know they will be stuck as a minority someday. And They could be screwed by there own actions.

the filibuster is being used routinely by the liberal democrats....something that has never been done before in the history of the senate....and it is being used in a completely hypocritical manner in regards to what the same buffoons in their leadership said when they had the power

if it is being used in this way, amend the rules of the senate
