Anybody ever go through this? I've had many surgeries in my day this one is a pain in the ass. I have to keep my head down for two full months minimum. They had to insert a gas bubble into my eye to keep the retina stable after repair. Fml

Had one in Nov lat year. Luckily I had to be upright after mine-could walk around etc. Having that bubble was weird--at times was like you were under water looking at a wave. Eventually I came out ok but I have a hard time reading small print. My eye ended up being 20/90 so had to correct my lenses of my glasses to 20/30 but still not good. But very happy I can see. Rest your eye alot during recovery. gl-take care

I didn`t know that`s what they did for a detached retina...I have two holes in my macula and that`s the surgery I need....they inject the bubble in your eye and you have to keep the head down to keep the bubble against the part of the eye(the macula`s in the very back) that needs to be healed(the bubble literally floats up when the head is down and presses on the back of the eye)...

I`ve read certain doctors do it WITHOUT you having to put your head down ....unfortunately none in my area(and very few period)....my vision in one eye is fairly distorted...I can see but reading eye charts is tough....

I keep putting it off hoping somebody locally adopts the "no head down" method(the no head down method entails injecting a bigger bubble so you don`t have to keep your head down all the time..the bubble being big enough to press the back of the eye and keep the medicine where it`s needed)....

did you have to rent any specialty gear for keeping your head down?.....I know you can`t do much of anything physical for a long period of time(and I can`t deal with that)...

has to be a major pain in the ass...

With the gas bubble insertion, therapy is usually 5-7 days with the eyes looking downwards so that the gas bubble will apply pressure to the detached retinal area. Also, there is a 500 feet elevation limitation to prevent the gas from expanding and applying additional pressure. Gas bubble will slowly dissipate over several weeks. Some retinal intervention may use silcone oil which does the same thing as the gas, but for an extended period of time(4-6 months) and requires additional surgery to remove the oil. Modified sleeping position is an issue, especially if you usually sleep on your back which isn't an option.

Hope you have a great recovery.

My retina had 2 tears and a hole from diabetic retiapathy. I was mostly blind in the eye when she operated. We are nearly at the 2 week mark. Head down in my car means all activities done with head face down. Chin to chest. Or laying face down.
