DEVIL RAYS/RANGERS Under 10 +100 ? Wilson Alvarez has apparently discovered the Fountain of Youth in Tampa Bay, as he has looked like the Alvarez circa 1997 in his last 3 starts. In those outings, all Quality Starts, he has allowed just 3 earned runs in 19 innings, which translates to a 1.42 ERA, and he allowed 0 earned runs in 2 of those starts. He has done his best pitching on the road this season, where he has a 3.22 ERA in 4 road starts. The fact that he is just 2-2 speaks volumes for the lack of run support that he has been getting from the pathetic Tampa Bay offense. Bell has gotten progressively better in his last 4 starts, lowering his WHIP to a very respectable 1.38. He had 2 consecutive Quality Starts before his last start in Anaheim, and he did not pitch terribly there either, allowing 4 runs and 8 hits in 7.1 innings. He has gone at least 6 innings in each of his last 4 starts, which is a good thing here considering the difficulty that the Texas bullpen has had. He should have little difficulty with a Devil Rays offense that managed only 4 runs in the first 17 innings of this series before getting to Irabu in the 9th inning last night.
