DEVIL RAYS/WHITE SOX Under 9.5 +100 (Friday) ? You wouldn?t think of Garland and Sturtze as ?Under? type pitchers, but the Under is 14-8 in all of Garland?s starts this year and 15-10 in all of Sturtze?s outings. Garland was knocked out early by the red-hot A?s in his last start, but he had tossed 3 consecutive Quality Starts before that. This Devil Rays lineup obviously does not contain as many offensive threats as the Oakland lineup, so I like Garland to get back on track tonight. Besides, Garland?s statistics are drastically better at night, when he has a 3.89 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP, than they are in the day (6.40 ERA, 1.62 WHIP). The Under is an excellent 9-3 in Garland?s 12 nighttime starts. He has had 5 career starts vs. Tampa Bay, and all 5 of them have been Quality Starts. Sturtze pitched decently in his last start, allowing 4 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings while picking up just his 2nd win of the season. He has not been terrible in his 3 lifetime starts vs. the White Sox either, posting a 3.98 ERA with a fine 1.23 WHIP against them. While he won?t bring back memories of Cy Young, Sturtze is serviceable enough to keep this game Under, as I don?t expect Tampa to generate much of anything vs. Garland tonight.
