doochuck,

Diabetes sucks! But if you can change your life, especially your eating habits, exercise patterns...etc you'll be fine!
All good advice above........I've been diabetic for 4 years now and still in control ......BUT......lost 20 lbs the 1st year......punched my finger 5 times a day and was a poster boy for caring for myself
Well, you'll find that you can have sugar (not much) small amount of cake or ice cream.......juct as many carbs in a piece of bread....its all sugar.....rice, breads, potatoes etc. gotta really watch how you eat....apples and fruits for carbs and not toooo much if that either.......like bananas
After a year or so people have a tendancy to become comfortable with the disease....DEPEND TOO MUCH on the meds..D'ONT DO IT! I know! I'm one of them!
DO YOU SMOKE? DO YOU DRINK?.........................If you do ya better resign yourself to QUIT... period.........obvious sugar and circulation problems result. I'll have a beer or a glass of wine infrequently when out to dinner but never more than 2. Then I'll need my meds. to get the blood sugar down.
Smoking.......finished with that shit...Thank God...and the MJ friends who helped me through that. Close to 4 years now!
You are probably highly motivated right now......SO NOW is the time to study and make the changes.

Good Luck

My dad found out he had Type-II Diabetes back in '91. He was about 20 pounds overweight, drank beer, ate on the run, always under stress, etc... To make the story short, he is 67 years old now and pretty much has the diabetes under control through diet and exercise.

My point is it can be done.

Keep the faith.
