"Amazing, you are very critical of the current administration and don't vote...."

"It's people that don't vote that contribute to this sorry situation. I find that a horribly immature viewpoint."

I am very critical of the current administration, but then again I really didn't have much alternative in the choice offered by Kerry.....

You guys that waste your time voting don't realize that you're really not changing the system, but merely changing cogs in the corruption machine known as the "good ole boys network"......

We live in a country where a cop cannot legally accept a free donut, yet politicians receive thousands of dollars from corporations and special interest groups......please tell me the correctness of that situation and why the latter is not a bribe.....same country social security is on the rocks, taxpayers pay in for decades and may not see a penny, or see small beans if they live to be 80, yet the house votes in for themselves a 100% retirement pay plan, courtesy of the general fund and they are eligible for benefits after simply one term.....

Vote all you want, for whoever you want, until the common people get a chance to vote on the real issues and have a chance to determine thier own destiny and future, you'll still have self-serving creeps in office forever.......there's too much bs in the political arena and not enough problem solving......emotional issues like prayer in school get haggled over and waste taxmoney when real issues that actually effect the economy and our future should be tackled and solved.

Do you honestly think the American voting public would have voted in for the house the retirement package that they are receiving now?

Tell me what checks and balances allow the house to just take what they want from the treasury and call it fair.....

What does it matter if you just sit around and whine and bitch? Obviously we do not live in a perfect society nor does anyone else. And no matter what we do, it will remain that way.

You are one of the "common people" I assume and the longer you choose to withhold your vote, the less chance there will be to rectify it. Since we are a democratic republic and not a democracy, it is up to the people to take power back according to thel law. It isn't easy and it cannot be done overnight - that is the bad thing. But find a candidate, even at the local level, that sees things the way you do and suppport him/her. The way to correct things is not to side on the sidelines wondering where the justice is. Go out and speak to young people and urge them to vote. Help get the elderly to the polls or teach them about absentee ballots. Do something - anything.

ferd.....you're not changing the system.

Tell me I can go out and vote in November or whenever, and tell me one of the things on the ballot is a "yes or no" on the current house retirement package....I'll register to vote and I'll be among the majority of people in this country who will vote it out.....

Regardless how well-meaning these politicians sound before election day, and how much good they say they will be for America and serve America, they get caught up in the gridlock and the good ole boys network and all of them pretty much turn out the same.....they speak a mean game to get your vote, then sway towards corporate America and the $$$ put in thier pockets....an honest one wouldn't stand a chance the way the SYSTEM works...

The system has to change, the rules have to change, or there will be no change....only thing that will change will be the politicians sucking up to corporate interests.....

They want the power and the status and the money, the problems they are hired to fix are conveniently put off for the next batch of "leaders"

"I find that a horribly immature viewpoint."

That's the beauty of democracy we are each entitled and allowed to voice our opinion, yet you chastise the very system that affords you that right (try that elsewhere in the world). I agree that there are issues in the current system but in regards to voting your logic is flawed, I say hate the game not the player. My first realization 'my vote counting' and I have to get involved was prop 187 in California ( circa 1994) the net net is a judge overturned the will of the voters of California. It's easy to Monday morning quarterback, if you are a man of conviction then you have a couple of options; put some skin in the game and get involved in the process or leave.

Father Abraham Lincoln is perhaps the Biggest Myth and Lie in American History. John Wilkes Booth did the country a great service.

Could you expand a bit on this statement?

AR - you took the words right out of my mouth. Anyone who was alive while Carter was president could never say that the Bush administration is the worst. Are you and I that old?

IO, since you are from the Great State of Illinois I am quite sure you are a believer in the Lincoln of Mythology. Do a little research on how "charitable" Abe was to the women and children of the South, how he believed the Black man was inferior to the White, how he trampled on the Freedom of the Press, jailed journalists, rewarded war criminals with promotions, destroyed the original Constitution, and propelled the South from wealth to crushing poverty in order to exploit its resources to the benefit of Northern industry. He is despised by a large segment of the Southern population to this day.

Ocelot is correct. The story in our history books about Lincoln leaves out a great deal. I don't think that parts of the South have yet recovered from the hand he dealt them.

ocelot--every person in power is going to have things that they are not proud of.

For you to say that John Wilkes Booth did this country a great service is showing that you are a jack ass. NOTE: My signature does not apply to this post.

dawgball, being a Southerner (or are you really?) with a Georgia avatar, you should be ashamed. Probably your own great grandfather(s) fought defending OUR country from an unjustified invasion from Mr. Lincoln. I am sure they are rolling in their graves right now that you would come to HIS defense and dishonor their sacrifices.

To say every person in power has something they are not proud of is true - but in the case of the tyrant Lincoln it is the greatest understatement of all time. Please read some true history and not the propaganda that was force-fed to Southern school children ever since we lost our right to self-determination in the War for Southern Independence.

Thank you for considering my ignorance and my heritage, but like mentioned above Lincoln did things that I do not agree with but there are many things that came from his tenure that have served this country well.

My comment was mainly geared at your pompous statement that Booth performed a great service. He murdered an American President in cold blood. That could only be seen as a great service only to someone who I do not want to associate with.

But you probably see John Hinkley as a great American hero as well.

You Might Be A Republican If:

You think "proletariat" is a type of cheese.

You've named your kids "Deduction one" and "Deduction two"

You've tried to argue that poverty could be abolished if people were just allowed to keep more of their minimum wage.

You've ever referred to someone as "my (insert racial or ethnic minority here) friend".

You've ever tried to prove Jesus was a capitalist and opposed to welfare.

You're a pro-lifer, but support the death penalty.

You think Huey Newton is a cookie.

The only union you support is the Baseball Players, because heck, they're richer than you.

You think you might remember laughing once as a kid.

You once broke loose at a party and removed your neck tie.

You call mall rent-a-cops "jack-booted thugs."

You've ever referred to the moral fiber of something.

You've ever said, "I can't wait to get into business school."

You've ever called a secretary or waitress "Tootsie."

You answer to "The Man."

You don't think "The Simpsons" is all that funny, but you watch it because that Flanders fellow makes a lot of sense.

You fax the FBI a list of "Commies in my Neighborhood."

You don't let your kids watch Sesame Street because you accuse Bert and Ernie of "sexual deviance."

You scream "Dit-dit-ditto" while making love.

You've argued that art has a "moral foundation set in Western values."

When people say "Marx," you think "Groucho."

You've ever yelled, "Hey hippie, get a haircut."

You think Birkenstock was that radical rock concert in 1969.

You argue that you need 300 handguns, in case a bear ever attacks your home.

Vietnam makes a lot of sense to you.

You point to Hootie and the Blowfish as evidence of the end of racism in America.

You've ever said civil liberties, schmivil schmiberties.

You've ever said "Clean air? Looks clean to me."

You've ever called education a luxury.

You look down through a glass ceiling and chuckle.

You wonder if donations to the Pentagon are tax-deductable.

You came of age in the '60s and don't remember Bob Dylan.

You own a vehicle with an "Ollie North: American Hero" sticker.

You're afraid of "[the so-called "liberal media"]."

You ever based an argument on the phrase, "Well, tradition dictates...."

You ever told a child that Oscar the Grouch "lives in a trash can because he is lazy and doesn't want to contribute to society."

You've ever urged someone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, when they don't even have shoes.

You confuse Lenin with Lennon.
