I have a bet with someone on this.
Told them that Springsteen wrote it and that Manfred Mann did the popular take.
Even had them listen to it. At first they seemed convinced, until some kinda cognitive dissonance set in, and they apparently justified some felacio (sic?(sick??)not by my bible) belief by conjecturing that what they heard was not not unlike the memory that plagues their erroneality.

if yaknowhatimean (I sorta do)

regardless...I can't find shit reference to any ELO (i.e. Electirc Light Orchestra) cover of this tune.
Anybody else?
Worth good coin to me if I could prove it...guess I'd have to book with the ELO dudes to do that, aye.
My hand is a winner (I think) but the red pill cannot be found.

I think you lost the bet.. ELO played this song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U53aleEACPU

And many people believe that this is blinded by the light.

Interesting reply, my bleeding friend.
Has the 4 words early on, but still doesn't share any notes, or other lyrics, with Bruce's go-round.
I was looking for a true cover by I'm guessing it's non-existent.
The proof is in Hendrix-knows-what, but money isn't everything. My audial narcissism ain't, either, but it's about as close to the Rapture as I'll get.
Bless the rest gone come May 21 or whenevas.

Manfred Mann's was it, methinks.
Hendrix lived a little and he mighta covered it.

Thanks rest. Agreed.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
nope, ELO never did.

The confusion arises via 3 streams:

1 - The ELO song "So Glad You Said Goodbye" (YouTube link to it above), by "ELO Part Two" (an offshoot band) has, as it's second line in the lyrics, "I'm blinded by the light". But despite this one line, the tune is completely different. As Extrap notes.

2 - Manfred Mann's Earth Band version of "Blinded By The Light" (1977) is improperly identified on many mp3, P2P and ring tone download sites as being performed by ELO.

3 - Many sites listing lyrics improperly identify ELO as the authors of "Blinded By The Light"

-----------

One telling touchstone I've found of some classic rock music lovers who learned their music from radio instead of lovingly reading over their LP albums while listening to the music is the surprise and disbelief they display when you mention "Blinded By The Light" by Springsteen.

"Don't you mean Manfred Mann" they always ask or correct. Usually a sign they and friends too poor back then to purchase albums.

Thank-you, Terryray...#3, above, looks to be the key to my adversaries (in this regard) dilemma...they've been snafu'd before by misappropriated acknowledgements. Other words were cool, too--I think that people taking little(r?) interest in the realities of the musical history will allow wharever experiences to sway such cognitive entaglesments. I've been wrong before, on such musical info, and actually appreciate being set straigjht, when it happens. My current curiosity and bewilderment is with those that will not allow a change in belief due to "cognitive dissonance" (as mentioned) or whatever one wants to call it.

whatevas is whatevas but it is sometimes tough to whatevas when confronted with ignorance

if that sounds conceited then (cough) whatevas
I actually like to learn if and where I'm wrong, as mentioned

oh, no, I've said too much
haven't said enough
