You remember that Marine Corporal in San Francisco ? name is Lance Cpl. Stephen Funk ? who suddenly decided that he was a conscientious objector at the very time his unit got orders to proceed to Iraq? This coward actually said that he was tricked into joining the Marines because they ?didn?t advertise that they kill people.? He was surprised, he said, by the violent nature of the military.

(Pausing for hysterical laughter.)

Well ? it looks like Funks explanation of his cowardice isn?t working all that well, so he has had to come up with another angle. Now, instead of proclaim his status as a conscientious objector, Funk is announcing that he?s gay.

What a disgrace. He isn?t worth the sweat off a real Marine?s earlobe. Throw him in the brig until his enlistment period has expired, then give him a dishonorable discharge (probably not his first) and send him home to his Mommy.

more from the idiot..

"I cannot in good conscience take part in war. I object to war because I believe that it is impossible to achieve peace through violence," says Funk, who added, "I hope that other soldiers will find the courage to follow their beliefs. I hope other soldiers will listen to the voice of their conscience and come, in their own ways, to question the "logic" of war. I hope other soldiers will come to see that they are more than cogs in the machinery of war, but free individuals with the unconquerable power of free will."

Translation: PLEASE GUYS!!! Don't make me be the only one here! JOIN ME! Don't let me go down in flames on my own!

And another,
"I refuse to kill," says the twenty-year-old reservist. "It is scary to confront the military, because the military teaches you to submit to orders even when you object. I may not be a hero, but I know that it takes courage to disobey. I know that it demands courage to say "no" in the face of coercion."

Wait till I show up to work on monday and tell my boss to go f*ck herself with rusty hacksaw! Then I will remind her how courageous I am for disobeying her order to do my job.

i haven't looked at the ucmj lately, but the term conscientious objector is redundant in an all-volunteer armed forces. conscientious objector is a status of exemption allowed to potential draftees in order to be excused from being compelled into military service. i believe it is also appropriate as a basis for discharge if a serviceman converts to a religion during service that would not permit going to war, if the case is made on a timely basis at the time of the conversion. but in this guys case, its total b/s. to claim that you enlisted in the reserve to soak up the benefits, but refuse to serve when called in time of war, is worthy of nothing but court martial. my ancestors are shuddering in their graves, which are scattered around the world because of military service.

don't get me wrong, conscientious objector is a legitimate status in appropriate cases. believe it or not, i was always an admirer of muhammed ali, and thought he was unjustly treated in his quest for c/o status. i always thought he basicly proved his case by making a lifetime commitment to his islamic faith. was he imperfect in his faith - sure, but who isn't. he certainly contributed an abundence of time and resources to further islam. i wonder what his take on this was is. on the other hand, as i still admire him, i'm probably better off not knowing.
