On occassion a company will prosecute those they catch using these and some of the fines have been huge.
From what I have heard, digital cable companies have access to house addresses stealing their signals if they use a "black box". Is this true?

No Boy, I've used the same "black box" for over 9 years but now all the HBOS PPVs etc... have went digital only as of late which leaves my box worthless.

(PS it only cost me a C-Note.)

Not bad for 9 years of usage.

what is happening is that the filter is blocking all signal transmission that is under 54 MHz. the cable company send you the signal at about 60-64 MHZ and the dct responds at 8-16 MHz.
The PPVs, however, are still in your box and as soon as you reconnect your box without the filter you'll get billed. There is a limit of about 12 PPVs before you box locks up.

stomie is exactly right...i work for comcast and it happens all the time. people will take the filters off and re-connect the box and they have like a big ass bill from ppv's. of course they deny they ordered them, so we credit back the amount.

I've heard you must unplug the digital cable box before taking off the filter. Then, leave the box unplugged for a few hours and re-install the filter before you plug back in. Heard it clears the memory of the movies, etc... you got before and does not send them through to the cable company. I do not have one but I know someone who does and he has not had any problems.

He got it for like $25 at a computer show.

Can anyone else confirm this to be the case?

to reset the box,so you don't get charged, hold down the select/power buttons on the Motorola digital box for 20 seconds & then release it... then go to the electrical outlet
immediately & unplug it for 30 seconds...then plug the unit back in & wait to hear the click on the box before turning the box back on ...the memory now will be cleared;)

Thanks Trademaster ... I had heard there was a way to do it but no one could tell me how.

My friend has one so I will let him know and when he tries it ... if it works ... I will get one and let everyone on here know.
