Classy discussion guys. Scott made a lot of garbage movies, but he also made a few classics. Sad day, especially for his family.
Hunter S. Thompson:
?67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun ? for anybody. 67.?

Got to see him speak at the University of Iowa when I was an undergrad in the early 80s. He walked on stage an hour late with a full bottle of Wild Turkey that he opened as he sat down. Spoke, or more accurately, rambled nearly incoherently for 45 minutes before taking questions for 30 more; left to a standing ovation and a bottle that had just enough whiskey in it to cover the bottom....:scared
think he smoked a joint while on stage, but we were too far from the stage to tell for sure. Plenty of us, er, those in the audience were partaking, that for should....:SIB

Great story and my favorite quote by HST. I know your memory may be a bit fuzzy from that long ago, but I was picturing this in the IMU. Was I right?
yes, sir..main ballroom on the 2nd floor of the IMU....we thought we got there early as it was soon after the doors opened, but the best we could do for seats was about half way back from the stage. Didn't take us long to see that many in the audience were running downstairs to the bar for beers and people were firing up joints and one-hitters and passing them around, so we of course, joined in.
Since he was so late in getting started and the sound system sucked so bad, people got bored and started leaving...we kept moving up as seats opened up and soon we were in the 4th row and that is how I know it was a bottle of Wild Turkey....
Saw a lot of people over the years speak in the IMU--Tom Brokaw gave an amazing speech--turns out he started his college career at Iowa, but enjoyed the nightlife and the co-eds a bit too much and left school.
Speaking of party schools, saw where Iowa ranked 2nd on the US news and world report list of top party schools. :0074
