So I have DirecTv for the only reason most other have it, the Sunday ticket. Problem is I hate it when it is not football season. For example, I'm stuck watching the playoff games today without HD since local channels aren't offered in HD in my area. My questions are these:

Is it possible to have DirecTv ONLY for the Sunday ticket in the fall? or do I have to subscribe to some sort of package and then add Sunday Ticket on top of that?

Is it possible to suspend service from January to August every year and only have it for football season?

Thanks in Advance

Vegas Baby !!
You can subscribe to "local only" channels for $5 a month , I believe. You can also :suspend" your account for up to 6 months at a time. (going on vacation).

Try these 2 methods, you should save some loot !! :)

You can also use an antenna for local HD....

the best way to get it, IMHO... no compression of the signal - best picture.

If you have a DVR (which most do), both the HR10-250 and the newer one HR-20, allow you to hook up an antenna and have a HD tuner built in.

Most local markets (big ones anyway) have HD locals - which you can get with the HR-20.

Cable is normally a worse value - much more expensive for the same channels.

Why not get HD for free with an antenna? I put on in my attic (30 miles from Milwaukee) and get them all perfectly....
