even more disgusting

the # of charging calls.......jeez......duke started ruining the college game 25 years ago when they started jumping under offensive players, now it's become a defensive philosophy by everybody because the fuking officials have no clue how to call a game......most of the time it should be a block, no call, charge....but in college it's almost always a charge.

i like the nba better.......ITS A BLOCK.....not many charges called in the nba, would lead to these guy to quit playing high school bullshit defense.

Gin23 - there is a reason there is no charges in the NBA.... the NBA guys have their paycheck, and there is no way that they will sacrifice their body to take a charge. They aren't interested in playing defense.....

College guys are still looking to hopefully get a paycheck, and are willing to play D.

To try to equate college and NBA defensive standards is a futile exercise..... very few NBA players are man enough to give up their body and take a charge.... last thing they want is to take a hit and not be able to do their groupies after the game is over......(which does make perfect sense)

ummm

they dont run to a spot and jump under a player already in the air.....like most college players do....becasue its a BLOCK.....however, college refs have allowed it to go on forever.

and most block/charge calls SHOULD be blocks.....in college an inordinate amount are charges which is crazy.

and if you dont think they play defense in the nba, you dont watch much.

GIN - the games I watch, if they jump under, it is a block. But when I watch NBA games, and pretty much anyone drives to the basket, NBA players just part like the red sea, because they are afraid to take a charge. You NEVER see guys man enough to take a charge.

I think the college game, overall, does a very good job.

Unlike you, I believe postional defense, getting to a spot in a legal manner before the offense, is a big part of the game.

Clearly, you enjoy the wide open, dunking, NBA. Which is fine - but I appreciate the good D.

guess we'll have to disagree.....think the reason they jump under players all the time in college is because they're so bad defensively and cant keep anyone in front of them.

just watch a duke game.......guards get beat, offensive player goes for a layup and some clown like battier comes from 10 feet away, jumps in the lane (while the offensive player is already in the air), flops to the ground.....risks injury to the offensive player.....and gets rewarded with a charge call.......you can subsitute any duke clown over the last 20 years like wojo and now substitue almost any college team for duke.......

to me, that's not good defense that's high schoolish type defense

Gin23 - if we didn't allow taking the charge, how would white guys ever be able to play defense? It's not like they are jumping high to block shots.... They have to be cerebral, and play positional defense.

If you noticed, even college has gone to the restricted arc around the hoop, to keep guys from just standing under the basket to take charges. I think this was a great rule change, even though I don't think the college officials are skilled enough to be able to utilize the arc effectively in making calls (there was a big call that went against Jordan Taylor from WI yesterday where the official clearly indicated that the reason it was a foul was that Taylor was in the arc - even though the replay showed he was 2 feet in front of the arc).

It's hard enough to get a white guy on the court in college/NBA basketball unless your (or my) school is named Wisconsin or Harvard.... we have to give them some tools to work with on defense.

I guess I just see it as a big part of the game. I do enjoy defensive basketball, much like I enjoy a pitchers duel in baseball.....
