I've understood the free speech issue really well for about 6 years now. As long as you approve and speak highly of George Bush and his administration, free speech is pretty cool. Otherwise, you should keep your mouth shut, we'll listen in on your phone calls and you'll be tortured.

Ain't democracy "2001-2008" great?

Free speech by the Dixie Dorks and everyone else is fine and frigging dandy.
For every action there is a re-action. Because you speak freely doesn't mean others have to bow down to whatever filth you spew out, and if you are going to go out and mouth off, you better damn well be ready to have others share in their right to free speech as well.

Go to work tomorrow morning and gather all the employees in the lunch room and stand on the table and tell everyone that you are ashamed to work in the same building as your boss and exercise your right to free speech.
See what happens.

Just because you criticize something doesn't mean you are friggin immune to everyone else's right to speak out.

Actually, Bush was elected by a majority of the electoral college in 2000,but he lost the popular vote. So, technically, Gore was preferred by a majority of Americans.

Bush did slightly better against Kerry, actually winning the popular vote by less than 2% of the vote. You remember, the "vote for Republicans or you will surely die" election?

Not to quibble of kittles and bits with you, gw...but...gotta keep it real, ya know?

:)
1. And "technically" Bush won the election in 2000.
2. I see a "W" in the win column. by 1 vote or 1 million votes.

The popular vote has never mattered. Everyone knows it is the electoral college. The popular vote is just something else for the media to drum up and report on to stir the pot on an otherwise boring night.

My comment was in response to what I saw as an attempt to make the point that a majority of Americans supported Bush in the election and he is therefore somehow more entitled to not be insulted - or whatever it was. The math does not support that, despite your "technicality" deflection. He lost the popular vote, which was the point that was made (majority of the people, not the majority of the electoral college). I'm sure the other "minority" here will argue the technicals, though. Especially if they are from Florida... ;)

The popular vote certainly matters if you are determining a majority of the people and what they support. Although, it doesn't surprise me that a supporter of Dubbya would deal with non-fuzzy math all that well.

Fuzzy math.

Leftists bellyaching about the 2000 election is like USC bellyaching about being back to back national champions.

Who is bellyaching? Weasel said Bush was elected by a majority of the people twice, and he wasn't. He was elected by a majority of the electoral college twice (whici is obviously all that matters). But no one (in here, at least) is complaining about the election. It's simply pointing out a blantant false statement in Weasel's post.

I saw an interview on 60 Minutes with The Dixie Chicks.....

Would have been easy to play the patriotic card like Toby Keith and come out with some preachy boneheaded songs that appeal to the guys who drive a pickup with a shotgun in the back window and watch Nascar in their trailer houses.....basically give them what they want to hear and not step on anyones toes for fear of losing out on another dollar......(not necessarily that Keith has any viewpoints that are unpatriotic that he'd want to keep in the closet...if he does he hides them well)

She had the balls to say what was on her mind and wasn't afraid to piss a few people off full well knowing that financially it would cost them....

I have more respect for someone who is honest than someone who has issues or disagreement and decides to sit on the fence and collect a paycheck like a politician.....

The ever inclusive and important disclaimer: We are in no way related to, or working for the Dixie Chicks. The truth is that we have an insuppressible love for Natalie Maines, and we wanted the world to share in that love with us. This site is not meant to insult Martie or Emily in any way--they are both integral and lovely parts to the Dixie Chicks. Likewise, this site is also not meant to insult Miss Maines herself. She is a beautiful, cute and talented woman who we felt needed some attention in the internet community. So, in short, if you think this site is cool, buy Wide Open Spaces and support the Chicks. Without them as a whole, Natalie wouldn't be accessible for us to swoon over. =)

Saw their show in Bryant Park and they were Hot. Despite death threats on them and their families by Patriotic Americans, they put on a very good show without any rhetoric except Punking GWB with their headlining Single.

Totally agree with alot of you guys, Marco especially. I think the reason why many are callings maines stupid is she is finanically stupid, and any of you coming on here saying their stand against the president hasnt cost them financially lets do the math.

Their core market is the country music crowd that largely are bush supporters. So if they think that upsetting that part of their market is a good business decision they are stupid, and they would have sold many more copies if they would have just kept their mouth shut. Not getting on radio, and eliminating your core group of fans are two ways to lower sales.

I do not know why this has turned into a bush haters vs lovers vs liberals vs republicans vs your stupid cause you like stupid ivy league president or your not american cause you disagree with presient...... cmon guys.

No doubt Dixie Chicks hurt their sales by alienating their core audience AN CONTIINUEING TO DO SO. They are well aware of that. Financially they are retarded. But I cannot fault them for speaking thier minds, even though I think it was done in poor taste and I totally disagreed with it.

I really liked the comment about "went to the show an good music but once they started preaching thier views I was outta there". Thats exactly how I feel about them, if their music is pleasant and them singing about things that I like then fine I will listen, they will be rewaded financially by me buying thier cd. If thie songs are all about "I am mad as hell I aint gonna back down, i rather hug a terrorist than hate one, babies eat fruit not animals(i threw that one in!) then i will say YAWNNNNNN.

And that sounds like what thier album is turning out to be so keep on "fighting the good fight" dixie chicks right into the poor house, cause that is fine with me. Maybe they will find enough anti bush country music fans to support them but i think that is an oxie moron (sp?)
