spasms in his neck and left shoulder; activated righthander Paul

15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle; recalled
outfielder Chad Allen from Edmonton of the Pacific Coast League

contract through the 2002 season; designated outfielder Darren
Bragg for assignment.
Philadelphia Phillies -- Placed pitcher Ricky Bottalico on the
15-day disabled list with an inflamed right shoulder; purchased
the contract of pitcher Ed Vosberg from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of
the International League (AAA).
Seattle Mariners -- Announced pitcher Kevin Hodges cleared
waivers and has been sold to the Yakult Swallows of the Japanese
Central League.
Toronto Blue Jays -- Placed pitcher Lance Painter on waivers for
the purpose of giving him his unconditional release; agreed to
terms with outfielder Gabe Gross and assigned him to Dunedin of
the Florida State League (A).
