Local calls me after game time to confirm that he has received my message, now we do have a policy where he has to call me back b4 game time or just right into playing time that he has to call me back to confirm. I left him several messages indicating that since he never called me back (mid-way through first) that wager is off. I get a call from him about 20 minutes ago and he said

" Anthony I am sorry but I was in a meeting so I couldn't call you back to confirm", but as you know you did call the play in so it stands."

I want to hear some opinions before I either refuse to pay him or accept the loss. How do I really know if he really was in a meeting or not? I am not able to identify that and thus, I am stuck here with either losing a local who accepts large wagers(no one else does) or save my self around 35 units. This haas never happened b4 but he is being firm that he is a trust worthy guy and he wouldn't do this to me, but that is not the point that I am trying to get across here.

The point being he did not call me in time to confirm, and I called half way through the 1st to waive off the wager, but he states that it still stands as he did not deny or approve it as he was held up.

Sure he wins, so it stands, but if I won he would have rejected my victory.

This is the only thing that sucks about having a local.

Your stance please??

Thanks

Can you honestly say you would be complaining about not having received a call if the bet had won?

A policy is a policy.

I guess it's all about your relationship whit this guy and how you can you live whit your decision and the short and long term rebound to your decision.

A future lawyer like you should find the answer to these questions on regards to what is """"legally""""" ok; on the other hand the human aspect will conduct your decision and i'm not in your pants.

This is a really good question and i would be currious to see how it would do in the general forum, although i imagine some of the answers:confused:

Personnally i can tell you that even if i dont know you i would trust your judgment to make the good decision.
I'm not helping.......sorry..

$$man,
sorry to hear about your problem, especially after the hit you took last week. This is precisely the problem with dealing with dinosaurs (loCal). 35 units is definitely a considerable wager, certainly something I'd want concrete instead of dealing with messages and call backs.
2 things I'm not sure I understand, 1) was there any score when you called half way through first. And 2) when did your man finally get back to you, after game completion?.
Obviously if there was a score when you called you probably don't have much to stand on. Although if your man didn't call to confirm play until completion that doesn't smell right either.
In any case you are in a spot, a wager of that size deserves more attention and security than messages & return call confirmation. If your man is taking your considerable action and he has "meetings" he should have a partner or someone to take the call in "live" real time.

Your correct about 1 thing, you were in a no win situation. if you truly called halfway through first with no score Ralph had the ability to sit back & play the outcome of the game. Your team wins, I'm sure he heard the message. His team wins, ahh yes he was in a meeting.

Unfortunately only you and Ralph can hash that deal out, he is going to have to consider the value of your business. While you consider the value of his so-called "convenience". Obviously you guys need a better system. Frankly 35 units is a considerable play, but with the sizable plays you have been making long term it will shake out in the laundry.

finally, you are the law student dude! If you truly feel you are getting screwed, tell Ralph later & find another out! If you feel you bare some or most of the burden pay the man, then make your money back next week. Just not on another 40 unit special. The way you have been playing NHL this season 8I'm not sure I'd want your action if I was booking your plays.

Best of luck

Suck it up and pay the guy. If it happens again in your favour make sure you remind him of this incident.

i know mr mo will move this, but

i know mr mo will move this, but

if this is HIS policy, to call back with confirmation . . .
and it didn't happen. . .

i think he should void the bet, $$$$.

sounds like he is punishing you for his responsibility; it's his policy.

just my two cents.
