Do you flash your lights to warn drivers to speed trap?

Since I have a heavy foot and have been known to get a speeding ticket here or there, I've always been one to warn other drivers of a speed trap in the opposing direction by flashing my brights. The other day I did it and another cop car was one of the cars I flashed. I was half expecting to see him pull a 180 but since it was on a highway I guess he couldn't.

I've tried to research if it is illegal or not to warn other drivers coming up to a speed trap. In NJ, for example, a woman got a ticket for this but appealed to the state superior court who ruled that it is not illegal for drivers to warn other drivers. In Florida, it seems that some local courts hold up the charge.

Just curious to see if any others here will warn drivers coming up to speed traps. It just chaps my ass to see cops have nothing better to do than sit in the grass getting people going 8 miles over the speed limit when they could be out doing far more productive things.

Yup, I send the warning signal everytime I can. I look around first to make sure cops can't see me.

I've been saved many times as well.

I was well past the cops performing the speed trap but one of the cars I was warning was an unmarked car. Fortunately it was on 40 which is a major interstate and no openings in the median where I was :mj07:

I was pulled over by a cop for flashing with I was alot younger.

He asked me to tell him if I knew who was it the speeding vehicle. I told him of course I didn't...

Then he told me a story about a man that had kidnapped some poor child and what if I had assisted in alluding the police by flashing my lights...

The police story scared the bejeezuz out of me and I'm never done it since.... :142smilie

speeding on the freeway is one thing, it's the idiot city street aggressive drivers the cops need to ticket. while going the speed limit i can do without being tailgated... actually at the first hint of these rear bumper snifters i pull over and invite them to pass. i feel much safer with them in front.

the problem is when one of them is through with you another soon arrives to take their place. if the police want to perform a great deed they should have unmarked cars going the speed limit and ticket the morons who will inevitably stick to their bumper. it won't be as easy a catch but they will be doing a true public service.

My brother got busted for warning other drivers.

How did they prove it? Didn't matter, they asked for DL and REG and he got busted for driving on a suspended and was carted off to jail and the car got impounded. :sadwave:

I flash, but I see it as much less common than it used to be. Don't know why.

On getting bumpered: if you're in the fast lane, get the fuck out of the way. It's not the Auto-Bahn where it's your fault for getting rear-ended, but there is no sense in you holding someone else up. :)

Jimmy, those are my favorite people. When someone gets on my ass they see two things, my car starting to go slower and my big smile in the rearview mirror.

Perhaps you have never seen the sign that says 'slower traffic keep right'

i rememer I was taking my wife to the hospital when she was in labor and someone was doing 65 in a 70. I flashed him politely, then got on his ass after he slowed down.

Good to know you are one of the people that may being putting someone else life at risk, because you don't know how to drive. Please don't ever drive in Michigan

On the autobahn, it is illegal to pass on the right. People are smart enough to realize that it is much more dangerous to pass on the right. Crazy how they don't have a speed limit, yet the have less fatalities.

Snoozer, I was responding to Jimmy and he was talking about people doing it in the city. I said nothing about being in an area where you do indeed keep right if you're going slower.

Next time read everything and what someone is talking about before you jump down their throat.

That's sounds good and all but since you're in the left lane most of the time in order to turn left at some point that doesn't work.

In Dallas there are no signs that say slower traffic keep right, now on the highway(like the one where you said you where going 75) there are signs like that.

If I'm in the city and the speed limit is 45 and I'm doing 45, you get on my ass, well be prepared to go a lot slower.

I love fucking with people who like to tailgate. I'm a fast driver already, but if someone tailgates me with out giving me a chance to get over they are gonna go a lot slower. I took it down to 15 mph on the freeway one time. Fuckers.
