Doctors boycotting California's Obamacare exchange

http://m.washingtonexaminer.com/article/2540272

From Medscape -

? For the third consecutive year, physicians in the North Central region earned the most ($259,000), whereas doctors in the Northeast earned the least ($228,000).

? Less than one half of all physicians (48%) believe they are fairly compensated for their work, down from 51% the year before. In primary care, 51% say they are fairly compensated, up from 46% the previous year.

So...the average doctor makes about $245K/year ($122/hr) and thinks he isn't paid enough.

That's 16X the $7.25 minimum wage which many folks have to live on and 8 times what our city cops get paid. A bad day for a doctor is not enough cream in his coffee. A bad day for a cop.......? Cry me a fucking river.

If a cop - or anyone else for that matter - wanted to earn a doctor's wage-----become a doctor.

It really is that simple.

Some people have the intellect to go through under-grad and medical school and residency and become a doctor - with all the education loans accompanying that education - that is one thing that is overlooked -the $500k in student loans that most physicians come out of school with - does the cop have a $500k nut to crack before he can start 'living"?

NO.

And Mr. Policeman has a state pension set-up for his retirement which Mr Doctor has to self fund.

Grass sure does look greener over there but maybe it's just from the shade of an oak tree.

(And, I happen to be a supporter of police.)

Hey, Duff - if minimum wage for fast food workers goes up to $15 - how much will the food at those fast food restaurants cost?

$ 500K debt? Get real. Most of the docs I know personally had parents who paid the freight. Even if a doc borrowed every penny, $200k would be enough. That will do at a state college and med school. You don't have to graduate from Haahhvahhhd.

And a $200K debt on a $250K income isn't much. Not hard to pay it off in five years and live high on the hog at the same time.

For docs who can't stand any debt, there are plenty of deals where communities will give them a free ride through school in exchange for the doc agreeing to practice there for a few years, at full pay, of course.

And at least half the docs I know are corporate employees, so they have employer funded retirement.

I don't eat fast food, but the data shows that increasing the cost of a Big Mac by $.70 (about what $15/hr would require) doesn't really affect sales. Maybe it would be a good thing if MacBurgers cost more anyway. Ever notice the girth of McDonald's average customer?

Saaay, since you've now got time to post, where's your facts that young folks aren't signing up under the ACA? ....no....quotes form Rush Limbaugh aren't proof.

My wife is a doctor. I KNOW the costs first hand.

As for fat people eating at McDonald's - I'm not into social engineering. If they want to eat that crap and get fat, so be it. Not my call.

If it is so easy, as you suggest, for a wannabe doctor to cover his costs and get free schooling, then all those minimun wage employees at McDonalds and all the cops should enroll in med school.

Wage inequity problem solved.

It is not easy to type....i have torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders...farming / manual labor have not been kind....it's hard to get a damn shirt on.

Employer funded retirement? As in a 401k? You think a 401k - where there MAY be a 3-4% match is equivalent to a state FUNDED pension?

holy crap.

email Lumi gave me for you came back as bad - was going to send you a present but I need your physical address....USPS could not find "right behind you" - though I am sure they tried and Homer spent all day driving around in his little white van looking for it

I thought you are smart enough to understand the problem, but apparently not, so I'll explain it to you.

Our large, local non-profit hospital finds 1/3 of it's billings are noncollectable. So, in order to break even, they charge paying patients an additional 50%.

When a 50 year old lard-ass who is uninsured shows up in the ER with four blocked arteries, they get $100-200K treatment. Who pays for that? YOU, either through 50% higher cash payments if you pay cash, or through 50% higher insurance premiums.

So it is your business and you should care because it comes out of your pocket.

Too tough for you to follow?

Good for you. Did she have $500K in debt? If so, she was foolish. She could have got that education for $200K.

Three years pre-med, no undergrad degree is required for admission to med school. Three years med school. After that, as a resident you get paid. Not a lot, but enough.

Has she repaid that debt?

Or are you just a bullshitter?

So, ssd, what's your answer?

Did your wife borrow $500K? Or did she borrow less? How much? Who guaranteed her loan? The taxpayers? Did she repay it on time, with interest? If not, why not? How much does she make now? Isn't her income enough that you don't have to pick veggies for a living?

No answer from you?

Of course not.

You're a bullshitter.

Go away.

Haven't been here for awhile but, I see that Duff is still ranting against anyone who had the personal drive to be successful in their life. Bitterness is a trait that never goes away.

I was thinking about the fast food and minimum wage issue today. By the time wages are increased to the levels that people are protesting for, I think it is pretty obvious that the industry will convert to automation that should cut the workforce by about 30-40%.

Think drive through...stop to pay a cashier at window one, pick up the food at window two paying each employee $7.50 an hour. Kick the minimum up by 53% (to $11.50) install a self pay device at the first window and reduce overall costs by 23% not including the savings in benefits. Meanwhile, the employee that is still there now can enjoy his new-found wealth and the one that no longer has a job can start enjoying daytime television.

It won't take long for the automated ordering and pay station to make it inside the store. There will be one station manned by one person to handle those who want to "have it their way" and invest the extra time to do so. Ever notice the current four pay stations that are manned and the three expediters behind them? Eliminate four employees from that model and if you want to cite long lines and waits, just think smart phone to order ahead and pay the bill before you walk in the door thus converting the building to primarily a pick-up station rather than ordering and paying. There's plenty of automation in the kitchen already but, we already reduce the front-end staff from nine to four and Wendy and Ronald McDonald can pocket the profit and the protesters can find something else to complain about.
