My wife wants to re-do our kitchen. Since I am out of my league in discussing what is the best material to use, I thought maybe someone here can supply some info.

What is the difference between using wood or wood veneer ? Which is better material, looks richer, & lasts longer ?

Thanks for any info.

Get the Amish or Midianites to build them for u to your specs. They do excellent work at very reasonable rates. If u don't have Amish or Mindianites out there, hire a craftsman cabinet maker to do them. GL!

just get the kraftmaid and you'll be all pleased.

custom cabs will cost you out the ass. meninite and amish (we're in that country here) charge out the ass here.

depends on what you want to spend though. these kraftmaid cost us (the cost, not installation, cabs only) $9700 and i thought that was high. my builder told me of cabinets he installed for another family that ran $2400 a foot.

i'm happy with the ones we got.

Thanks guys for your response. The Phoenix area is not a favorite vacation destination for the Amish or the Meninite,so I can't use them.

I am starting to learn about the cost for cabinets & granite. haven't gotten exact quotes yet but was told it will run between 12-15 G's.

My question is about the difference between regular wood & wood veneer.

solid hardwood cabinets are more expensive.

wood veneer cabinets are less money because they use a laminate plywood core to save costs..

There are lots of wood veneers that look nice..

money aside.. solid hardwood is always preferred

just went through that shit and our house is only 5 years old. was looking at about 8,800 said f that first house is still new 2nd did not need them so, had a cabinet maker come in and reface them and stain a different color a hell of alot cheaper then buying new ones still was a waste because like i said house was only 5 years old and had them made how she wanted the first time. so wated money imo but wasted way less then getting new ones and saved a fight .:D

Freelancc,

Thanks for responding.

Another question:

Which has a better chance of warping (wood or wood veneer)?

Above the Clouds....
Putting cabinets in this week, my cost for materials was 3500. Shop around at Home Depot and places like that. Try putting them in yourself. Measure them first rip them out and replace, really easy. Try it, you'll be suprised at how much tou can do.

Bob :)

No BS I do this every day for people who don't want to try

the harder the wood.. the less it will move on you...like cherry oak and walnut..... the softer woods pine poplar and fir do warp if not properly sealed.

good quality veneer core plywood is stable.. but often times inferior plywood cores are used and can move on you..
