I?ve used anti-consensus as a tool for the past 3-4 years in the NFL, college foots and buckets, but I?ve ignored it for baseball since I started betting bases last year.

Does anyone really think that there is a JOE PUBLIC for baseball?

I?ve always thought that it was the one ?popular? sport that only took action from the hardcore gambler, not necessarily the addicts, but for the people that have handicapping as more than just a hobby.

Interested in people?s thoughts

hell yes public bets it....and i have been taking notice lately. if you watch the way the moneyline moves....go the opposite direction and you should hit more often than not.

so i think if i see a dog like tonight that keeps growing...i have to jump

this is an interesting topic BOBBY...i started following ant-consensus picks in nfl and the end of the nhl this year....i used two sites and if the number of picks towards one side was over 70% of the toatal number of picks i would go the other way...there were some other angles i used as well...i started to follow these angles in baseball just to track how the anti-consensus picks would do...i did it for around a week and stopped due to time issues....it obviously was not enough time to assess how these angles would have down in the long run...i may try and start to keep track starting this week again...the few times i did look however picking anti-consesnus didnt seem to reap as many benefits as the other sports...i certainly took note of that...

I defenitely believe Joe Public does bet baseball, but not as much as basketball and football. I think that the best days Joe Public shows up in large numbers are the days in which their are games on TV--Sat--SUnday night baseball, Wed night baseball. Memorial day----Mlb playoffs especially. Oh yeah, and days like today--MOdays when their is no card---Obvioulsy when their is only one game- it is easy to bet the favorite rather than the dog. I would not be suprized for the Phillies to be in the winners circle tonight. Because the average person that does not put time in to sports handicapping will wake up read the paper, see only 1 game--ANgels vs Phillies---Bet the favorite(because they are supposed to win)---not to mention the Angels are the world champs---

I believe that for the most part "Joe Public" does not bet baseball, but those who do bet it are generally as square as those who bet NFL, NCAA or NBA. I think the only real difference is that a larger percentage of baseball bettors know what they are doing, but that percentage is still very small. The only reason the percentage of sharp players is larger IMO is because of the super duper squares who only bet football and some baskets.

On the course!
I agree with Nick, in that the public isn't all over bases.

Too many games played all week long. That being said, of the people whom do bet bases, most of them are 'straw grabbers'. Take a night like tonight. One game, and every motherlover has a play on it. If this was a 15 game night, this game wouldn't get too much attention. Since it's the only game to bet on, the degenerates will do just that. I swear to god, that some people have to have a play evry single night, or they think their account will go dry! (IMO, these are 'public' players, too)
