My Shih Tzu has had three back surgeries. The pressure of leaking disc fluid caused temporary paralysis in her hind legs, but immediate surgery restored her health. It happened a second time about two years later. The vets told me she was doing so good I could bring her home early. Big Mistake! When I got her home, she was not moving her hind legs at all. I called the vet, and he said bring her back. To make a long story short they had to repeat the surgery to clean out the leaking fluid that wasn't removed earlier. Lucky she was only 5 years old and could recover from a second serious surgery in four days. She never did regain 100% of movement or strength. But she's a great dog and like most animals adjusts to whatever life hands her. Mine goes with me pretty much where I go. Good luck to you and your loyal friend.
