Smooth talker cheats women

Anyone spinning a yarn that goes something like "I am a juvenile government secret agent, helping to find a cure for AIDS and cancer patients in Africa by collecting a microbe through sex" should have been laughed off. But with just this simple lie, a 17-year-old boy managed to swindle, and seduce, dozens of local young women.
Prosecutors in Pudong New Area revealed yesterday that they have apprehended Lu Yun, a junior middle school graduate, who allegedly swindled cash, bank cards and mobile phones from several women and also seduced them.
From May 2002 to June this year, Lu - using an alias "Wang Kai" - disguised himself as a Canada-re-turned student and targeted young women in their 20s who looked like students, assuming, rightly, that they would be sympathetic and gullible, prosecutors said.
Lu would tell the victims a yarn about being a member of a government spy team and "my task is to collect chlamydia (sexually transmitted diseases caused by microorganism) through sex and produce vaccines to save poor children in Africa and Asia who are suffering from AIDS and cancer."
With an easy demeanor and innocent looks along with a mysterious identity, he managed to convince some women, prosecutors said.
Having won their trust, Lu took the women to a secluded place "to do the job." In cases where the women became suspicious, Lu would show a so-called "silicon chip" implanted in his hand - which was actually a green rectangular scar cut by a broken ink bottle years ago - and threatened to take pictures of the nude women.
Besides sex and obscenity, he also deprived the victims of money, bank cards and cell phones. In the name of testing their memory, he asked them to tell the password of their bank cards, then cashed between 200 yuan (US$24) and 1,000 yuan at ATMs.
"He didn't withdraw too much so that the girls thought it was too small an amount to report to police. That's why very few called the police," said Liu Ying of the Pudong New Area Prosecutor's Office.
But Lu's luck ran out on June 23 when he was caught after a victim reported to police her loss of mobile phone and 100 yuan in cash.
"I can't remember how many girls I have cheated. Once I locked on my target, I seldom failed," Lu told police.
Liu told police that all the victims were not vigilant enough and most of them longed for some adventures in their humdrum lives.
