Ok Eddie, while I admit I do not have all the facts on this one, I would like some reasonable explanation. A Mouslim woman in Florida refused to remove her facial wrap for her drivers liscense photo claiming it was against her religious beliefs and she could not be forced to do so. I heard of this a while ago and didn't think much of it until recently I heard she was granted her request based on said religious beliefs. Again not knowing all the facts, I am not sure if the state gave in on this one or if a lawsuit was involved. If you have heard of this case/situation I would like a reasonable explanation, if not then your opinion would interest me as well. The way I see it driving in this country is a privelage, not a right, therefore you play by the rules or you don't play at all.

Your witness counselor...

Don't know. Reasonable guess would be that issuing a drivers license is a priviledge not a right. Therefore, she does not have a right to a drivers license. She has a right to practice her religion but not a right to obtain the license. The later being a priviledge authorized by the state, she would have to conform to the requirements of that state for issuing a license.

In other words, drop the veil baby if you want to legally hop behind the wheel of that 86 volvo 240 with the "Put a brain in the White House" bumper sticker on the back. Where do I send the bill, pumpkin?

In response to your second question, that slip and fall in Kroger would garner a look from the undersigned. Especially, if you cracked your noggin and had a little bit of brain damage. But then again PF, in your case, I would anticipate the meritorious defense of pre-existing condition.

I don't know how licenses work, but I just had to apply for a passport, and there are no restrictions on the religious clothes that you normally wear. It is clearly stated on the passport guidelines, so I don't see what the big deal is for a license. If that's what you normally wear, just go with it... hell, you can renew licenses in some states by mail and it won't even have a picture on it when it comes back. It's a valid license, but makes for trouble trying to get into bars.

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered this is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

>IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every! citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

You guys should check out this link for facts about that Florida case and the origin of that editorial, which has NOTHING to do with that case.

What really gets me about that piece is...
"We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!"

I'd rewrite it as "We speak ENGLISH, AND Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and several other languages. Since English is predominantly spoken here, you'll probably have an easier time functioning if you speak it. In some parts of the country, you'll have an easier time getting by if you speak other languages."

TV, your right, Eddie post some great stuff, thats why I enjoy sparring with him. While we certainly have a difference of opinion on matters, it's fun to duke it out without anyone getting out of hand. Too many times people get way out of control on these boards and (so far) Eddie and I have kept it civilized.
