My thinking here is Carolina will have to be in a prevent mode to survive. They can be very stingy and if the come up " dry-ice " themselves, could be the under is the way to go.

I agree.

all of Carolina's game 1 in playoffs have gone under.

Detroit did when they faced similar defensive foe in STL. and Might have if weren't rusty, overconfident and unfocused for Van. Or decided in offensive shootout with Colo (something 'Canes can't do).

and Irbe is a proven Detroit and big name goalie killer. He isn't easily overwhelmed at this point.
