Sports Illustrated on Campus named the Carolina-Duke rivalry the No. 1 "Hottest Rivalry" in college basketball and the No. 2 rivalry overall in its Nov. 18, 2003 issue.
Carolina leads the all-time series with Duke, 123-94. Duke leads the series 46-42 in games played in Durham. The Tar Heels have lost seven of their last eight games in Cameron Indoor Stadium since the 1996-97 season (defeating the Blue Devils in 2000-01).
In the 217-game history of the Duke-Carolina series, only one game has been played on Feb. 9. Carolina grabbed a 75-73 decision on Feb. 9, 1957.
Carolina and Duke have met 10 times when both teams were ranked in the top five of the Associated Press poll. Carolina holds a 6-4 advantage in those games. The teams have met 36 times when both teams are ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll. Duke holds a 19-17 advantage in those games.
Jackie Manuel didn't miss a shot against Duke last year (5-for-5 in a combined 44 minutes).
Last year's regular season finale against the Blue Devils was the first time in five tries that Raymond Felton didn't score in double figures against Duke.
