EMU-LOULAF-If I can find a total on this game then I would consider the over as these teams could put up around 80 points.

Zman, I like that CSU play

I wonder how far the LSU line will drop now that they have moved the game to Tempe. IMO ASU has a nice chance to win this one outright since they have played a game and LSU has not played and the fact that these kids at LSU have to have a ton of stuff on their minds.

In a matchup of overrated vs underrated, Georgia thrashed Boise St 48-13 with Boise getting most of their yards late in the game with it out of reach. Last year Boise was dominated in the Liberty Bowl to the tune of a 29-15 FD edge by L?ville but somehow managed to stay within 4 points giving us great line value on this game. Also, Georgia is our pick to win the SEC East while no other magazine in the country had them picked higher than 3rd in the division making them underrated. DJ Shockley simply had an incredible game hitting 16 of 24 for 289 yards despite his receivers dropping 5 passes (would have been 21 of 24). Shockley also rushed for 85 yds and had 5 TD?s and this one was never in doubt...

We feel one of the most overrated teams in the country this year is Tennessee, who we fully expect to be 1-2 after 3 games despite coming into the season as the #3 ranked team in the country. They very nearly lost their opener to UAB as they led just 17-10 and UAB QB Darrell Hackney who hit 27 of 38 for 282 yards, had the Blazers at the Tennessee 9. Hackney?s 4th down pass in the EZ was dropped with 3:37 left and Tenn was able to run out the clock and escape with a 7 point win. Vol starting QB Ainge hit just 5 of 14 for 57 yards and backup Clausen hit 17 of 24 for 217...

Kent St played excellent defense last year and figure to have one of the MAC?s better defenses this year. In the opener, however, vs a Michigan St offense, which we project to be in the Top 10 this year, they were overwhelmed with the Spartans piling up 685 yards, the 2nd most in school history....

Oregon actually yielded 21 points in the 1Q vs Houston but then the D stiffened and did not allow another point until a 43 yard FG with :03 left...

Charlie Weis inherited a Notre Dame offense with a veteran QB and all 11 starters back and they simply dominated Pitt with 35 1H points before putting the offense away. The Irish still finished with 502 yards and 33 FD?s. In the 3Q, the Irish put together a 20 play drive for a TD to lead 42-13...

Last year Maine upset Miss St in a game in which they were greatly outplayed and they almost repeated the feat vs Nebraska. They didn?t even cross the NU 44 until they got a 52 yd TD pass with 11:57 left to pull within 15-7 making the Husker fans nervous but NU got a 27 yd int return for a TD to ice it and went on to a 25-7 win. The Huskers did struggle offensively with just 313 yards....

Miss St did not lose to a IAA team like they did last year. Interestingly Murray St?s QB Ken Tops is a MSU transfer and he made his first career start hitting 11 of 16 for 144 yards while also rushing for 23 and guided the team to a TD in the 1Q but struggled in the 2H...It was the story of 2H?s in UL Monroe?s battle vs a top-notch IAA team in Northwestern St. UL Monroe absolutely dominated the 1H with a 23-0 advantage but NWstrn St rallied for twenty-seven 2H points including a TD with 6:46 left for the lead. ULM got to the NWstrn St 22 but was int?d at the 4 with 3:20 left and lost their opener...I

owa St was a big favorite over IAA Illinois St but only led by 7 in the 4Q and was never comfortable. Big plays helped Ill St, however, as they did not get a FD in the 1Q yet led 8-2 on a 69 yd fumble return for a TD. Later they had an 80 yd TD pass. The Cyclones finished with a 25-12 FD edge...

Baylor ended a 24 game road losing streak by scoring 3 TD?s in the 2H including 2 in the final 7:47. They beat lowly SMU who has not beaten a non-conf foe since 2000 and Baylor is now 15-0 against the 4 schools from the old SWC foes who the Big 12 did not ask to join when the conf broke up...

Michigan?s defense collapsed in the final 4 games of the 2004 season but figured to be much improved this year. NIll, however, gained 411 yds vs them and opened the 2H with 7 straight plays of 8 yards or more showing the defense still needs some work. UM DT Watson did say they were not as aggressive as they will be this year scheme-wise holding some back for next week?s opponent (Notre Dame).

SUSPENSIONS AND INJURIES OF NOTE - Just prior to the season Temple suffered some big losses when out of the blue the school declared starters, RB Tim Brown, WR Mike Holley, LG Sam McNaulty, SS Bobby Fulmore and backups DE JC Braker and CB David Reese academically ineligible for the season. Coach Bobby Wallace said it took him completely by surprise and Temple is playing a very tough schedule this year and will likely struggle. Arizona St took advantage of that in the opener with a 63-16 route and Temple got 14 of their points with the game out of reach...

When Phil Steele?s College Football Preview Magazine was written in May, the status of E Carolina QB James Pinkney was still very much in doubt. He did qualify over the summer and then won the starting job in August and had a great game hitting 17 of 21 for 235 yards while also rushing for 31 and EC upset Duke in the opener 24-21...Ball St actually had 15 players suspended prior to their game vs Iowa including 9 starters. Now Iowa would have crushed Ball St with or without the suspensions but their 56-0 win was the largest in the 76 year stadium history and it could have been much worse. Iowa brought in the 2nd string with 10:20 left in the 2Q leading 35-0 and they led 40-0 at the half. Iowa had a 302-22 yard edge at the half and a 16-1 FD edge and played very vanilla in the 2H with just 7 points...

While technically not a suspension Anthony Sherrell, who had off-field problems during the summer, did not join his E Mich squad on the trip to Cincinnati as he is in the coach?s doghouse. The Eagles still almost managed to pull off the opening day upset as they were stopped on a 2 pt conversion early 4Q and trailed by 2 but could not score after that. UC did have a 469-316 yd edge...

There was a minor upset when Nathan Longshore beat out VHT JUCO Joseph Ayoob for the Cal starting QB job. Ayoob, who had thrown for nearly 6,000 yards and 59 TD?s in two years at JUCO was summoned, however, when Longshore broke his leg in the 1H which will likely put him out for the season. Ayoob had a disastrous game not completing a single pass in 10 attempts with most of his passes sailing over the heads of the receivers which is why he did not win the job in August. Third stringer Steve Levy who is PS#272QB and played FB last year, was summoned off the bench and threw an int on his very first play. Levy went just 2 of 7 for 52 yards despite not taking a snap in practice at QB all week but had a 46 yd TD pass and guided Cal to 17 points in their lackluster 41-3 route of a weak IAA team (Sacramento St). Sac St Coach Mooshagian said ?We had an experienced defense going against inexperienced QB?s. They?re developing their TE?s, their WR?s and the QB?s and that?s hard (simultainously)?....

Clemson played the 4Q without QB Charlie Whitehurst who was woozy after a hit but he should be fine for this week...

W Michigan played without Ryan Cubit (coach?s son) who has a leg fracture but Robbie Haas hit 33 of 49 for 271 yards and WM gave UVA a much tougher game than expected and even had a 22-20 FD edge in their 31-19 loss as 33 point dogs...Florida RB DeShawn Wynn did not play due to susp but will return this week.

MISLEADING FINALS AND BACKDOOR COVERS - Ohio St led Miami OH 34-0 after 3Q?s and at the half the Buckeyes had a commanding 244-76 yd edge but their backups allowed a 73 yd, 15 play drive for a TD with just 2:29 left and then fumbled the KO and Miami got a 35 yd TD with 1:11 left in a game nowhere near as close as the final....

Florida led Wyoming 32-7 and forced a punt with 6:28 left in the game on 4th & 10. Wyoming faked a punt and gained 41 yards for a FD to the UF 30 and got a TD with 4:43 left. The Gators still almost covered getting a 1st & goal at the 6 but after two tries to the EZ failed, UF let the final :30 tick off the clock ending the game at the 5...

Michigan led NIll 33‑10 when NI drove 80 yards in 11 plays and got a 3 yard TD run with 3:06 left for the backdoor cover. Michigan did get to the NI 21 but ran out the clock.

DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN - Colorado and Colorado St once again had their game go down to the wire as last year CSU had the ball at the CU 2 yd line but ran an option with no time-outs left and were tackled at the one and ran out of time losing by 3. This year the Rams were dominating Colorado leading 21-10 after 3Q?s but the Buffs rallied to tie with 2:32 left. CU then got an int and a 23 yd TD run to take the lead. Colorado St did drive for the game tying TD with just :36 left but CU ret?d the KO to the 40, got a FD and nailed a 47 yd FG with :04 left to pull out the win.

TEXAS @ OHIO STATE- Could there be a bigger game this weekend, with national implications? Texas rolled up 60 points against a patsy in Austin this weekend, while Ohio State took care of Miami of Ohio by 20 in non-dramatic fashion. The KEY for Texas is, can they with Mac Brown as head coach, win a big one? Columbus is a very tough place to play and they locals will be rabid for this one. This is a "pick'em" game right now, but expect Texas QB Vince Young to be tested against a Buckeye secondary, and how he does will determine the outcome for sure. Too close to call.

NEBRASKA VS WAKE FOREST - What are the Huskers doing laying 7 to a Division I school? The West Coast offense struggled against Division I-AA Maine in Lincoln, producing 1 TD total. Nebraska specials teams had a huge day, but look for a much stiffer test against angry Wake Forest who lost to Vandy, although they out-yarded them. This should be a good ballgame and an important one for Nebraska with Pitt on deck, and if they get caught looking ahead, Wake can win, as the Huskers are still breaking in a new JUCO QB in Zach Taylor who was less than impressive in his opener with 2 Ints. Huskers by 2.

IOWA @ IOWA STATE- MY FEATURED GAME OF THE WEEK.

OKLAHOMA VS TULSA - Yes, the Hurricanes are in town, and yes there will be a Hurricane, called Adrian Petersen running the ball here against a porus Tulsa defense, as angry mined OU looks to avenge an opening day loss in Norman. Tulsa; who gave up over 500 yards of offense to Minnesota and over 300 on the ground is in trouble here folks. OU is laying 31 here, I see a 40 point BLOWOUT in Norman.

KANSAS ST. @ MARSHALL- Revenge is sweet for KSU here, as Marshall went into Manhattan last year and beat the Wildcats straight up as a 16 point dog, a game I was at! KSU is no juggernaut this year, but I look for them to exact some revenge, but struggle on the road this early with a young team, laying a huge number here (-10). Will Bill Snyder drop the hammer if he is up to exact some revenge? I am sure he will, but he does not have the horses as in years past, but KU should win by 14 here, as Marshall is way down this year and struggled to be a Division I-AA team last week in the final moments.

That is this week's roundup of my key games in the Big 12. It should be a great weekend of college football, and the Ohio State and Texas game should be a thriller on Saturday Night. Good luck and enjoy all the games.

Below are vegas Vic's free plays this guy has been a local legend in the Cleveland area for some time and host a radio football capping show each week.

Pittsburgh -14 over OHIO UNIVERSITY
Don't expect another loss for the Panthers in this one, as Palko and Lee should be able to shred the Ohio secondary. The Panthers will jump on top early and never look back. This is baptismal by fire for Bobcats new coach Frank Solich.

Oakland +7.5 over NEW ENGLAND

I know I'm gonna take some grief for this pick. But, that's the point. The public is definitely on the World beating New England Patriots. It's hard to pick against a team that has done so well in recent history. But, my analysis is telling me Oakland keeps this under a touchdown. Any time you can get over a TD in week one, it's worth a look. Big underdogs come through at a very high rate in the NFL in the first week. What's changed here for these two teams? Well, New England has lost Tedi Bruschi, Ted Johnson and Roman Phifer - the heart of their linebacking corp, as well as all-world corner Ty Law. And, oh yeah - both their offensive and defensive coordinators have also jumped ship. They still have Brady and Belichick which is why we'll keep this a one star play. On the Raider side of the ball (yes I say "side" instead of "sides" because they have no defense), the offensive-minded Norv Turner has stockpiled quite an offense. He brought in Randy Moss and LaMont Jordan, both high-impact players to compliment the emerging Jerry Porter. The Raiders formula for success this season will be
simple: give up a lot of points but score more. I expect this one to end up closer than 7.5 points. The public has pushed this line a bit over where it should be and we'll, as usual, go the opposite way. No "tuck rule" here - Take the Raiders

Bjfinste,

Im going to play the over at that total since I do not believe the EMU can or will be able to shut down Babb the QB for the Cajuns he has a rocket arm and can run and EMU offense with RB Sherill should be able to put up points on a below average defense. THis game sort of reminds me of the game last year between Idaho and EMU that nearly put 90 points on the board, but you know how early in the season sometimes offenses take awhile to gel.

Ouch!!!! Florida Atlantic was just brutal and I can't say much for Okie State as their offense is abysmal and we might of got a cover last night if FLA ATL didn't turn the ball over all night.

Tonight

Pitt-13.5

Reno over 58

**Iowa at Iowa State**

?Las Vegas Sports Consultants has Iowa as an 8 1/2-point road ?chalk? over Iowa State, with the total listed at 45 ?. ABC will provide coverage of this contest beginning Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

?Iowa is 3-1 straight up, but 1-3 against the spread the last four encounters with Iowa State after prevailing last year as a 20 1/2-point home favorite, 17-10. The Hawkeyes also won their last trip to Ames back in 2003 as a 5 1/2-point road ?chalk,? 40-21.

?Iowa routed overmatched Ball State Saturday as a 39-point home favorite, 56-0. The eighth-ranked Hawkeyes called off the dogs after entering halftime with a 49-0 advantage. Iowa enjoyed sizeable advantages in rushing yards (241-51), passing yards (200-93) and first downs (22-7).

**North Carolina at Georgia Tech**

?LVSC installed Georgia Tech as a 12 1/2-point home favorite over North Carolina, with the total set at 44 ?. ABC will broadcast this ACC affair starting Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

?Senior quarterback Matt Baker will be making his first start after going 23-of-36 passing last year for 326 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Junior running back Ronnie McGill will start at tailback after rushing 79 times last year for 419 yards and five scores.

?The Tar Heels hope to improve on their rushing defense that ranked a dismal 109th in the country after the team surrendered an average of 218.4 yards per game. In fact, UNC allowed opponents to rush 225 yards or more in nine games to go 3-6.

?Georgia Tech upset Auburn last weekend as a seven-point road underdog, 23-14, while the combined 37 points slithered ?under? the 38-point closing total.

?The 22nd-ranked Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 10-0 first-quarter lead, and finished the contest with advantages in rushing yards (139-50) and time of possession (34:22-25:38). However, Georgia Tech was on the short end of passing yards (342-174).

?Quarterback Reggie Ball was 17-of-36 passing for 174 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Running back P.J. Daniels had 23 carries for 111 yards and a score, while wideout Pat Clark had six receptions for 36 yards.

?North Carolina follows this matchup with a home game against Wisconsin before traveling to N.C. State. Georgia Tech hosts Connecticut next weekend before traveling to Virginia Tech.

Cal led in every offensive category, such as rushing yards (212-68), passing (183-121) and first downs (16-9). However, it wasn?t a flawless effort as the team lost starting quarterback Nathan Longshore for the season with a broken leg.

?Backup Joseph Ayoob entered the game and promptly went 0-for-10 passing. The Golden Bears relied on the running of Marshawn Lynch, who had 24 carries for 147 yards with a touchdown.

?The defense clamped down and allowed the Hornets just 2.7 yards per play, while forcing three fumbles in the second half.

?Washington is off a tough last-minute loss to Air Force as a three-point road underdog at Seattle?s Qwest Field, 20-17, while the combined 37 points never seriously threatened the 52-point closing total.

?The Huskies led the Falcons in passing yards (242-207), but trailed in rushing (218-129), first downs (22-18) and time of possession (31:52-28:08).
