Coming off a subpar 2nd week after a super first week! Here are my intial leans anyone havew any input please feel free to share, lets bury the book this week"

Cal-5.5, wow this line seems way too low at first glance, granted S Miss beat a reloading Nebraska but Nebraska moved the ball on them all day and surely Cal's offense is lights out next to the Huskers!

UCONN

Rutgers-10, I dont know much about New Hampshire but Kent cant be better!

Maryland, just because they have owned WVU

Hoosiers, impressive win against Ducks but this line may have been adjusted allready.

Cuse

Northwestern, too much talent on offense not to win this one

Iowa State

NC STATE, I have not been overly impressed with the Buckeyes this year and now they have some injuries in their secondary

AUburn

OKIE

Toledo-EMU, trying to find a total on this game these teams may hit 100 points

TCU

UCLA

FLA

PITT

Zona State

Utah ST

MC, I like Cal against So. Miss. You're right, Cal's offense is primed...the west coast still hasn't settled in "corn town". Plus the black shirst of old didn't look all that impressive.

Like Rutgers...when don't they cover!!!

OH ST. NC ST. man who knows, looks like OSU of two years ago, the just win...not impressive, just win. Steering clear.

Realy like UVA...Groh is pouring it on em...wanting to look impressive to pollsters.

Even like BYU catching 26.

Expect VA Tech looking past Duke to NC ST. next week. Plus Tech has covered the first two weeks. Playing Duke.

My early looks include:
California over s miss on thursday

vandy over ole miss will be very happy to get 7 ole miss has no business being this big of a favorite; vandy could move the ball on south carolina but just turned it over too much

another note Florida Atlantic will be playing their third straight road game with first one of those being in Hawaii; could be drained especially with 2 straight up dog wins

anyone recall the record of the trend of teams playing three games in a row on the road as Waymac stated FAU will be playing their third? I recall someone posting this trend last year!

mc,

i don't know at this point what the trend is for teams playing 3 road games in a row but i know it's not good.

at first glance, i like bc, nc st. & nmst. vs the new darlings of college football, troy.

good luck this weekend to all who read this thread.

hey lost hillybilly,
byu is having injuries at the qb pos.
the 4th stringer finished the game last nite vs. stanford...
sc is going to demolish byu, like all m.w. teams. i know line looks high for a road team but they handled them here in l.a. last season. so that defense won't be a surprise like last time.
pickem ucla- always play huskies tough
-34 ok. st.- made me a believer, they cancover this number just rushing...
+9 arizona- home game and they actually looked good on defense and wisky is not a threat thru the air like utah was...
-1 auburn- win strk ends here for l.s.u.

INJURIES OF NOTE - Iowa St K Tony Yelk was questionable heading into the Iowa game but did not play. That was unfortunate as ISU had a chance to pull the outright upset but missed 30, 46 and 31 yd FG??s. Instead of leading they trailed 17-10 and their final drive got to the Iowa 34 yd line where they were SOD but still easily covered...

The Illini did trail 21-7 at the half but played the 2H without senior QB Jon Beutjer who injured his ribs late in the 1H. Brad Bower, a red-shirt freshman, was 11 of 15 for 102 yards and ran for 39 but UCLA converted 3 Turnovers into TD??s...

Wisconsin was without starting RB Anthony Davis and had just 276 yards vs. UNLV in an 18-3 win. Also, UNLV QB Kurt Nantkes was injured in the 1Q and backup Shane Steichen QB??d the rest of the way hitting 12 of 27 passes for 100 yards...

W Virginia RB Kay Jay Harris, one week after setting the Big East record with 337 yards rushing, got just 2 carries vs. UCF leaving the game with an injury. Backup Jason Colson rushed for 108 yards in his place and Rasheed Marshall threw for 225 and rushed for 65...

TCU QB Tye Gunn aggravated a slight rib injury and Brandon Hassell QB??d most of the 2H in the 44-0 win vs. SMU. Hassell hit 17 of 22 for 264 yards.

FRONTDOOR AND BACKDOOR COVERS - Pitt was outgained by Ohio 290-217 and QB Tyler Palko hit just 6 of 19 for 49 yards. Their biggest plays came on a blocked punt which was returned 37 yards to set up a 2 yd TD and a 42 yd intercepted return for a TD. OU trailed 17-3 when they were SOD at the Pitt 33 with 4:37 left. QB Palko??s 43 yd run on 2nd & 9 got them to the 7 and they got a TD with 3:00 left for the cover...

Georgia Tech/Clemson was just 10-7 with 9:00 left in the game and the total was 47. Amazingly the two scored 5 TD??s in the last 8:19. With less than 30 seconds left in the game CU was punting from its own 37 and a bad snap saw GT tackle the punter at the 11. They got an 11 yd TD pass on the next play 11 ticks left to pull out the 28-24 win. CU did return the KO to the GT 31 and their pass into the EZ was almost caught for the TD...

California had their largest home opening crowd ever at 58,949 and they were loud throughout. It was surprisingly 7-6 early 2Q but Cal rolled up 611 yards offense and was ahead of the spread, 41-7 but NMSt got a TD with 4:29 left for the backdoor cover...

For the second straight week OSU kept it mostly on the ground with 60 rushes and just 8 pass attempts. They still led Tulsa 38-7 in the 4Q but Tulsa got 2 late TD??s including one with 1:52 left for the backdoor cover.

MISLEADING FINALS - Washington St. surprisingly had a 20-7 FD edge vs.. Colorado and 416-117 yd edge. We could have easily put this game under ??Narrow Escapes?? for CU as well as for the second straight week, CU??s foe was at their 2 yd line at the end of the game. This time WSU fumbled. During the game WSU missed a 26 yd FG, dropped a snap on a 39 yd FG, had a 40 yd FG blocked, had 2 punts blocked (one of which CU rec??d for a TD) and as mentioned, finished at the 2 yd line...

Texas Tech dominated New Mexico. They had 32-17 FD and 495-315 yd edges and it was even larger than that but Tech kept stalling inside the 5 yd line. At one juncture they had two 1st & goals at the 5 result in a total of 3 points. Tech punted with less than 1:00 left and NM gained a good portion of their yards on their final drive resulting in a game winning 43 yd FG on the final play.

BALL STATE...Starting jr. TB Larry Bostic was on crutches following 59-7 loss at Purdue game after hurting his knee in 4th Q.

Cal's go-to WR Geoff McArthur will be less than 100 percent for Thursday's trip to Southern Miss.(Getty Images)
BYU...Jr. QB Matt Berry cut his hand on 3rd play of game at Stanford and could not continue. Juco Jason Beck relieved Berry and was 23 of 46 for 232 yards with 3 ints. and no TDP. Soph John Beck (no relation to Jason), who started opener vs. Notre Dame but was not expected to be available against Cardinal after hurting his shoulder in win over Irish, got some snaps late in 37-10 loss at Palo Alto.

CALIFORNIA...Star sr. WR Geoff McArthur (85 catches for 1504 yards & 10 TDs LY!) pulled a stomach muscle in practice last week and was far less than 100% vs. N. Mexico State. He caught only 2 passes for 31 yards in 41-14 home win over the Aggies. Sr. WR Jonathan Makonnen, who missed LY with an injury, has been out with a sore hamstring. And emerging sr. TE Garrett Cross (8 catches for 122 yards & a TD in first 2 games) sprained his knee vs. NMS.

DUKE...Sr. DE Phillip Alexander (18? TFLs LY!), Devils? best defensive player, broke his leg in 1st Q at UConn and is unlikely to return this season. Duke?s other starting DE, sr. Micah Harris, was killed in a car crash during the summer. And starting sr. CB Kenneth Stanford (shoulder), the team?s best cover guy, DNP vs. Huskies. Top RB jr. Cedric Dargan (calf) was limited to only 2 carries after he rushed for 114 yards (nearly all during 1st half!) in opener. Soph RB Aaron Fryer had just 55 YR on 18 carries in come-from-ahead 22-20 loss to UConn.

FLORIDA STATE...Seminoles thought they would have 5 returning starters on their OL TY. But in opener at Miami, starting jr. C David Castillo (foot/chest) DNP, starting sr. G Bobby Meeks (ankle) barely played, and starting jr. G Matt Meinrod sat out 2nd half after hurting his knee. Highly-touted soph CB Antonio Cromartie had an int. and returned a fumble 61 yards for a TD in the game, but he was sidelined with a sore hip when Hurricanes mounted their game-tying TD drive late in 4th Q.

GEORGIA...True frosh RB Danny Ware (bruised lung), who had 135 YR & 3 TDs in opening win over Ga. Southern, left in 2nd Q last week at So. Carolina and will miss at least 1 game. Soph Michael Cooper, who had a team-high 673 YR LY, ran for 61 yards in relief. Jr. Tyson Browning, a 5-8, 167 converted WR, had 54 YR and a TDC, but his 4th-Q fumble deep in Georgia territory forced Dawg defense to make game-saving late stand in 20-16 win over Gamecocks. Soph RB Gregg Lumpkin, the projected starter, was lost to season-ending knee injury in August.

GEORGIA TECH...Star jr. DE Eric Henderson (undisclosed), who led ACC with 11 sacks LY, has sat out first 2 games.

HOUSTON...Starting jr. FS Will Gulley (hamstring; 104 tackles & 4 ints. LY) DNP last week at Oklahoma.

ILLINOIS...Starting sr. QB Jon Beutjer hurt his ribs late in 1st half vs. UCLA and did not return. He?s ? for W. Michigan game this week. RS frosh Brad Bower was 11 of 15 for 102 yards with an int. and also ran 6 times for 39 yards in 35-17 home loss to Bruins. Starting sr. G Bryan Koch (knee) DNP and is out for season.

INDIANA...Starting jr. DE Victor Adeyanju, one of Hoosiers? top defenders, dislocated his shoulder in 3rd Q of 30-24 upset win at Oregon. Adeyanju returned for 1 play but could not continue.

IOWA STATE...Starting jr. DE Cephus Johnson DNP, and starting soph DT Brent Curvey was injured at Iowa last week. Sr. PK Tony Yelk (leg) has missed first 2 games. Frosh Brian Jansen converted just 1 of 4 FG attempts in 17-10 loss to rival Hawkeyes.

MARYLAND...Starting jr. RB Josh Allen (undisclosed) DNP in 2nd half vs. Temple. Bruising sr. RB Sam Maldonado ran for 106 yards & 2 TDs in 45-22 home win over Owls. Star jr. MLB D?Qwell Jackson (elbow), who had 132 tackles LY & 2 ints. in opener TY, also DNP in 2nd half against Temple.

MICHIGAN...Top TB sr. David Underwood (concussion) left after 2nd play of game at Notre Dame and did not return. Wolverines ran for only 56 yards in 28-20 upset loss at South Bend.

NEW MEXICO STATE...Co-No. 1 QB Buck Pierce hurt his ankle in 3rd Q of 41-14 loss at Cal. Scouts say top RB soph Tony Joseph (suspension; 712 YR on 5.5 ypc LY) is unlikely to play this season. Soph Muammar Ali (5-8, 169) had only 40 YR at Berkeley.

NORTH TEXAS...Star sr. RB Patrick Cobbs, who led the nation in rushing LY, hurt his knee in 3rd Q vs. Fla. Atlantic and did not return. Cobbs has also been wearing a cast on his right hand due to a preseason thumb injury. Soph RB Kevin Moore had only 24 YR in 20-13 home loss to Owls.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS...Starting sr. QB Josh Haldi (foot fracture) tried to play in opener at Maryland, but he was removed after 1 series and is not expected back until MAC opener Sept. 24 vs. Bowling Green, at the earliest. Soph Phil Horvath was 19 of 36 for 219 yards with a TDP & 2 ints. in 23-20 road loss to Terps, and he was 11 of 22 for 148 yards with a TDP and no ints. in 23-22 home win over Div. I-AA rival So. Illinois last week.

NORTHWESTERN...Starting sr. RB Noah Herron had to leave Arizona State game after a hard hit in 2nd Q. Herron had already rushed for 105 yards. He was relieved by jr. Terrell Jordan, who had 85 YR in 30-21 home loss to Sun Devils. Struggling Wildcat defense (988 yards allowed in first 2 games) has been shorthanded, as jr. DE Loren Howard, the team?s top pass rusher, was lost to season-ending ankle injury in late August, starting sr. MLB John Pickens (106 tackles LY) hasn?t yet been cleared to play after off-season shoulder surgery, and projected starting jr. CB Marquice Cole (ankle) is expected to miss at least another month.

NOTRE DAME...Sr. RB Ryan Grant (hamstring) sat out opener at BYU and had only 4 carries last week vs. Michigan. But speedy blue-chip true frosh Darius Walker (5-11, 200) led 28-20 upset of Wolverines, carrying 31 times for 115 yards & 2 TDs.

OHIO STATE...Starting sr. CB & team captain Dustin Fox, who has started 30 straight games, is out indefinitely after breaking his arm in 1st Q vs. Marshall. Starting jr. DE Mike Kudla was also injured during 24-21 home win over Herd.

PENN STATE...Blue-chip soph TB Austin Scott (undisclosed), who had 116 yards & 2 TDs in opening win over Akron, DNP vs. BC. Soph RB Tony Hunt, who won starting job over Scott in preseason, had only 41 YR in 21-7 loss to Eagles after running for 137 yards (including a 77-yard TD) against the Zips.

SOUTH CAROLINA...Top RB soph Demetris Summers sprained his ankle on his first rush vs. Georgia and had only 1 more carry the rest of the game. QB Dondrial Pinkins had nearly half of Gamecocks? 73 YR in 20-16 home loss to Bulldogs.

TEXAS A&M...Star soph TB Courtney Lewis (undisclosed; 1024 YR & 12 TDs on 5.5 ypc LY) DNP vs. Wyoming. Sr. FB/TB Keith Joseph had a game-high 82 YR in 31-0 home win over Cowboys.

TOLEDO...All-MAC sr. TE Andrew Clarke (hip; 72 catches L2Ys) has missed first 2 games. Struggling, young Rocket DL was without its most experienced player in 63-14 loss at Kansas, as sr. DE Phil Alexander (knee) did not make trip. Neither did starting jr. PK Jason Robbins (flu).

UNLV...Starting sr. QB Kurt Nantkes hurt his groin on 1st series at Wisconsin and did not return. Soph Shane Steichen was 12 of 27 for only 100 yards in 18-3 loss to Badgers. Starting sr. OLB John Andrews (shoulder) & sr. ILB Zach Bell (ribs) were also injured during game.

WEST VIRGINIA...Star sr. RB Kay Jay Harris (hamstring), who had a Big East-record 337 YR in opening win over E. Carolina, left after only 2 carries at C. Florida and did not return. Soph Jason Colson had 108 YR in relief during 45-20 win over Golden Knights. Mounties entered the season concerned about their depth at RB, as highly-regarded soph Erick Phillips still isn?t fully recovered from major knee surgery.

WESTERN MICHIGAN...Starting jr. QB Blayne Baggett (ribs) & starting jr. RB Trovon Riley were both injured in 1st Q at Virginia Tech. Riley returned later in the game, but Baggett did not. Jr. QB Ryan Cubit, a Rutgers transfer who hit only 45% with 14 TDP & 25 ints. when he was with the Scarlet Knights, was 19 of 30 for 113 yards with an int. in 63-0 loss to Hokies. Jr. RB Daniel Marks had 64 YR at Blacksburg.

WISCONSIN...Sr. RB Anthony Davis (eye) DNP vs. UNLV and is not expected to be available this week at Arizona. Jr. RB Dwayne Smith, who led Badgers with 857 YR LY when Davis missed most of the campaign with an ankle injury, has been forced to give up football due to a heart ailment. Burly soph RB Booker Stanley had only 49 YR on 22 carries against Rebels, but quicker blue-chip true frosh RB Jamil Walker (6-2, 210) ran for 88 yards in 18-3 home win.
