1)...b.c.+7.5 and over 47(tease).....b.c. finished strong with road wins at rutgers(don`t laugh, rutgers was very competitive this year) and va tech...prior to those 2, they lost a game they easily should have won to west va.35-28..they out 1st downed w va 30-15 and outgained them 475-311.......paul peterson has replaced quinton porter at qb and that has sparked the b.c. offense...the "o" line averages 6`5" and 313 lbs...and blocks for one of the top backs in div 1a,derrick knight(3rd in the nation with 1599 yds...5.5 per carry)....this is a very balanced offense...
csu has a fantastic coach in sonny lubick and a playmaker in brad van pelt...van pelt`s mobile and a great playmaker....but broke his right hand in the finale vs unlv(the back up pulled the game out with a couple td passes late)....he had a pin inserted and didn`t start practicing until 12/15....
if van pelt reinjures the hand or it hinders him,csu will be in trouble....
small defensive edge to b.c.....ditto special teams edge to csu....
should be a high scoring ballgame....like taking more than a td with b.c.....who i was a little surprised opened as the dog...
also over 53(flat)....and hope that van pelt can hang tough....
2)wisky badgers +4(-130)....well,they`re finally healthy...anthony davis is back...jim sorgi is back....lee evans is healthy....
davis led the ncaa with 414 yds in the 1st 2 games....then missed 5 full games and parts of 4 others....sorgi missed 1 full game(the nw loss) and parts of 2 others(ohio st win and iowa loss)....wisky`s record would clearly be much better this year if these players had not missed so much time....wisky was up 21-7 on iowa when sorgi went down and matt schabert proceeded to throw 3 ints and basically gave the game away....wisky also suffered through numerous defensive injuries this year......
auburn`s strength is their defense.....and will be a tough nut to crack....particularly the front seven....but the secondary can be had.....carnell williams is a beast....and will get his yards.....but,imo,jason campbell is a bit of a stiff....the offense is pretty one dimensional....their top receiver has 38 catches and the "o" line gave up 25 sacks this year....
probably a bit of a home field edge for auburn....but what pushed me over the edge was the coaching mismatch....alvarez is head and shoulders better than tuberville..forget the 7-1 alvarez bowl record.....tuberville is lucky he still has a job.....has done less with the talent he has than mac brown....and that`s saying a mouthful....
both clubs have a stable of solid backs.....a defensive edge to auburn....but wisky has as balanced an offense as they`ve ever had with weapons all over.....auburn won`t be able to stack the line....wisky probably will....
i`ll take buy to 4 and go against the home field edge and with the better, more resourceful coach...
3)...arky-2....hopefully,last year`s disaster vs minny will keep this club focused....massive offensive line(even without a.a. andrews) vs a smallish missou defensive line........led the sec in rushing....and that`s saying something.....cobbs is healthy.....they really have a more veteran team and are better on offense, defense and special teams... played a tougher schedule....
brad smith is great...solid rushing game......but,some poor losses and close calls vs inferior competition(competition that arkansas probably would have beaten badly...mtsu...colorado...illinois....kansas)..pinkel is a solid coach....i actually might give the coaching edge to pinkel over nutt.....and brad smith can be tough....can take over a game...
just think that after many disappointments in big games(sec championship last year....the bowl loss....the blow-out to finish the season vs lsu)that this veteran team has an opponent in front of them that they can deal with....many upperclassmen for arky......and qb matt jones is a gamer that has improved his passing this year even though he splits time with ryan sorahan(the passer)....
more experienced....more physical at the line of scrimmage....
going with arky to finally get that big win for the upperclassmen...
subject to change if i see compelling counterpoints......
