You just have to limit who can bid on your PS3 - you can do that before the auction is created or in your own rules.

Everyone knows there's been a huge PlayStation 3 dump on eBay, as entrepreneurial sorts (like Alex from today's editor's corner) attempt to cash in on the frenzy (and short supply) surrounding the next-gen console. From eBay Marketplace Research, here's the breakdown so far:

As of 9:23 AM Friday, 174 PS3 consoles have sold for an average selling price of $2,618.47, and since its availability on eBay in pre-sale (October 17 until midnight last night), 3,533 PS3s have been sold for an average price of $1,788.88.

The average price for last week was $1,959.73, and the average price of the 334 sold yesterday was $2,184.85. In a month, the average price has nearly doubled. How long can this go on for?

A final statistic-- at the moment, there are currently 1,579 PS3s listed on eBay.

Since you are obviously on top of this, why are people paying this much. When will a PS3 be available for regular purchase at a retail outlet such as Best Buy? Is the manufacturer limiting production in order to start a frenzy among gamers?? If so, they have apparently succeeded.

I didn't do the research I found it on www.digg.com . They say the next round of shipment should come in about 3-4 weeks, right before christmas. I am not sure about after that.

People sell on ebay for the money. It is just as nice of a christmas present. I saw one guy who had a picture with 4 ps3's on ebay. The guy spent a lot of time/money up front with an investment but is going to pay off in the end.

As for Sony, they started this limiting production thing with PS2 when it came out. From there on out almost all consoles, besides maybe the Nintendo Gamecube has been like this.

If you want one fine, but it is absurd to buy quadruple the price for something you can get at regular price in a month or two.
