Just wanted some feedback on the effects of all star break rest. Some numbers for over/under favor the Under on 3+ days rest for most games (except Det scores 6.2 goals on 3+ rest and Colorado 7.25...something to think about).

other trends on 3+ days rest:

Ottowa 5-0 ats

Boston 4-0 while Columbus 0-5

NYI 4-1-2 while Florida 2-5-1.

Guess my question is, do you guys think that 3+ days rest statistics are viable for after the all star break. Think better rested teams play better D or will open it up more? Does more rest = better goaltending?

Feedback would be appreciated

Good question. I think the rest bodes well for OTT since they only had one player in the All Star game. What I was wondering about were the effects of some of the goals these All Star goalies gave up. Like Luongo and Burke who gave up a bunch of goals in the games they played Friday and Saturday. Does that change their confidence levels perhaps?? Khabibulin saw a lot of shots in that 1 period on Sat. I am wondering if he plays tonight. I know he practiced today.

Was wondering the same thing. I had a theory that teams would be a bit rusty on offense after the break, so I had a look back through scores from the last 5 years on the first day back. It appears that there is generally little correlation between the break and the number of goals scored. Not more than would be expected, and not less either. Bear in mind this was a very quick assessment and I didn't put a lot of time into it.

Another factor that may have an effect is the Superbowl yesterday. Nolan has a theory that NBA players party it up on Superbowl night and he proposes playing UNDER accross the board the following day on the assumption that players would be tired. I'm not sure how well this would apply to hockey, however...
