I'm guessing a lot more back door rake poker games are going to start popping up all around. The police pretty much ignore the few we have around here now; wonder if that will continue? Wonder how long it will be before we hear of somebody getting shot at a local poker game?

How about the local "bookie". I guess he'll be getting a lot more action now as well. I don't guess we have any organized crime around here (although I might be suprised), but I'm sure this will give them a boost as well. :com:

It is ironic that the goverment spent millions of effectively shutting down the mob over the past 20 years only to invite them back into business this weekend.

I know a BUNCH of local bookies, and NONE of them are in the "Mob".

It is Indiana and not New York, but I think you are taking that angle a little too far.

I do think there will be a ton more live poker games popping up as well as a few locals getting back in business. After the way they were slaughtered last year and the start of this one though, it is hard to say.

I disagree with this. Obviously some will, but the poker boom is over. Especially if its rid from the internet. Poker will lose its appeal and something new will come along. For me that's fine. Poker itself isn't going anywhere, but in the next 5 years it will lose appeal with the college crowd and youngsters as it won't be pushed down your throat through media outlets.

Maybe so BDB but I think the ones that began the game and have started to play almost exclusively online...they arent going to run out and say oh well and get jobs. They are going to look for someplace to play.

Maybe not though?

There was a great article about pokernomics, the future economy of the poker world (mainly large buy in events) in the latest issue of Bluff magazine.

GREAT read IMO.

in Rochester NY, the mob ran the bookie operations exclusively through the 1980's. If there was a bet placed in Monroe County, Frank Valenti got his cut. Independent bookies got the message very quickly that it would be a good idea to pay honor to frank if they wanted to be able to walk. it was the same in Buffalo and Pittsburgh, both controled by the Valenti family.

When valenti went away in the late 70's we had a major mob war that lasted years between two factions trying to get control. There were car bombing regularly during that time.

Alot of the guys that got sent away in the early 1980's are getting out of the joint now and I expect that they would be very willing to start picking up where they left off.

With all due respect, you don't know what you are talking about

I wasn't referring to poker or gaming in one horse towns. I don't think too many outside of this forum really care all that much about poker. Besides, as I'm sure you are aware, many of the floating casinos have poker action.

Just a few questions about the bill:

1-Will the bill cut out lonline poker and Sports betting or will it just do poker or vice versa?

2-When will this bill go into effect?

3-What about sportsbooks will they be affected by this bill?
