If anyone read my post on Richard Williams, you will know my disgust of Tiger and how deep it runs. But even I, as hard as it is, have to tip my cap at what he has accomplished. Pretty freakin' amazing.
But goddammit if there aren't some things that piss me off.
Tiger is the best player in the world, but his golf game is only slightly better than #2. His mental game is far and away the best in the world. Why is that? Why can't any golfers compete with him mentally? Don't give me that crap about Gravy Train (holy shit he got fat!) raising him to be a "Tiger." There are 6-10 guys that have the game to beat him, but no one has the head. It's really sickening. Mickelson should have been 5 strokes up on Tiger but he choked. I know that's a severe term, but there is no other explanation. And Duval? Give me a break. That is nothing but a choke job. Don't give me that crap about pressure. It's the same as a free throw or a field goal to win the game. Hell, it was more like an extra point. Norwood misses a 47 yard field goal and is a national loser -- Duval missed a 4 FOOT PUTT! I know he lost by 2, but what are the odds Tiger sinks the putt to win? I'm not going to say he wouldn't have made it, but Duval has to at least put the pressure on him.
Duval is Davis Love III remade. Great great player at the Bob Hope, or the Greater Greensboro Classic, or the St Jude Classic, but no head at a major. Just like Love missed the 3 footer at the Open to let Steve Jones win, Duval missed yesterday. Disgusting.
Tiger didn't make a single shot in the last few holes. He hit fairways and the middle of greens because he knew no one was making birdies.
Second, CBS is on crack. I know they are trying to get ratings, but Tiger winning all 4 majors in a row is not "the greatest event in the history of sports." A little melodramatic? I was impressed by their coverage, though. In the past few years it has been "Tiger and whoever is leading" telecast. At least they threw in a few shots by Calc.
Last, it's not a grand slam. The grand slam in golf is the same as in tennis -- all four majors in the same year. It's absolutely amazing, I agree -- but it's not a slam. By the way, Steffi Graf had a grand slam in 1988, in fact, she had a Golden Slam because she won the Olympics too. Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot, the Tiger Slam is the greatest moment in sports history.
