If anyone read my post on Richard Williams, you will know my disgust of Tiger and how deep it runs. But even I, as hard as it is, have to tip my cap at what he has accomplished. Pretty freakin' amazing.

But goddammit if there aren't some things that piss me off.

Tiger is the best player in the world, but his golf game is only slightly better than #2. His mental game is far and away the best in the world. Why is that? Why can't any golfers compete with him mentally? Don't give me that crap about Gravy Train (holy shit he got fat!) raising him to be a "Tiger." There are 6-10 guys that have the game to beat him, but no one has the head. It's really sickening. Mickelson should have been 5 strokes up on Tiger but he choked. I know that's a severe term, but there is no other explanation. And Duval? Give me a break. That is nothing but a choke job. Don't give me that crap about pressure. It's the same as a free throw or a field goal to win the game. Hell, it was more like an extra point. Norwood misses a 47 yard field goal and is a national loser -- Duval missed a 4 FOOT PUTT! I know he lost by 2, but what are the odds Tiger sinks the putt to win? I'm not going to say he wouldn't have made it, but Duval has to at least put the pressure on him.

Duval is Davis Love III remade. Great great player at the Bob Hope, or the Greater Greensboro Classic, or the St Jude Classic, but no head at a major. Just like Love missed the 3 footer at the Open to let Steve Jones win, Duval missed yesterday. Disgusting.

Tiger didn't make a single shot in the last few holes. He hit fairways and the middle of greens because he knew no one was making birdies.

Second, CBS is on crack. I know they are trying to get ratings, but Tiger winning all 4 majors in a row is not "the greatest event in the history of sports." A little melodramatic? I was impressed by their coverage, though. In the past few years it has been "Tiger and whoever is leading" telecast. At least they threw in a few shots by Calc.

Last, it's not a grand slam. The grand slam in golf is the same as in tennis -- all four majors in the same year. It's absolutely amazing, I agree -- but it's not a slam. By the way, Steffi Graf had a grand slam in 1988, in fact, she had a Golden Slam because she won the Olympics too. Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot, the Tiger Slam is the greatest moment in sports history.

I agree totally with you in that it is NOT a Grand Slam because he didn't do it in one year.

I thought coverage of the event was pretty sorry. Very limited.

I have never followed golf until recently when I started following Stanley, Ian, and DTB on the Links forum here.

I have made 800 dollars the last two weekends ...and that is with SMALL plays. I am NOT bsing you. There is great value in following the posts and just picking who they say.. as far as match-ups and winners.

Last week I had the winner and a place. I bet all winners to win and place. Last week it was McCarron and Weir I think.. over 400 on 5 dollar bets.

Love Stanley's thread and his website!

Pretty good outlook on the situation Bono, except your intense dislike of Tiger shows through too much. He's gone from a cocky teenage phenom to a self-assured young man who is simply out-gutting his opponents. That's where I have to agree with you.

Now, let's suppose that Tiger was heads up with Jack Nicklaus yesterday, while Jack is the same age as Dickelson (pardon the spelling), or Duvall. Do you suppose that Jack would have made some of those putts? Do you suppose that Jack MIGHT have gotten it closer than 40 feet ABOVE the frigging hole on 16? (Jesus, what a gutless bailout by Dickelson, looked like he was shooting for second place about then). I'm not saying Jack would have won (OK, I am saying that Jack would have won yesterday) but he damn sure would have applied the pressure to Mr. Eldrick Woods and we would have found out how he handles INTENSE pressure. Now THAT would have been a show.

I know, tough to hide it.

The thing about Mickelson's bailout on 16 that irritates me is the shot that he hit. At least Duval threw it at the flag. Phil, being a lefty, has to hit a cut into the back flag, not his normal ball flight. That's fine -- you start it at the right bunker, cut it into the slope and let it fall down. Where he hit it was fine, but the shot he hit was horrendous. Instead, he took the ball out over the water and hooked it into the slope, never giving it a chance.

Tiger on the other hand, hit the small fade into the slope and let it funnel down. All Mickelson has to do is hit a small fade into the slope. You can't tell me he doesn't have that shot. To draw the ball into the fat was pure gutless.

As for Jack, it's not even a question - he beats Tiger by 4. I would have loved to see a young Watson battle Tiger. Talk about intensity! Actually, it's a shame that Faldo and Tiger missed each other at the top. Faldo was the strongest mental player I have ever seen. His performance at the Belfry was the best Ryder Cup performance I have ever seen.

Good analysis Bono on the 16th. I thought that a little fade was part of Mickelson's repertoire. It was one of the most GUTLESS shots I have ever seen in a major tournament. However, I can't slam Woods because I think he has shown himself to be one of the great players already, much like Jack in his early days, but in order for Tiger to become LEGENDARY he needs an adversary, just like Ali needed Frazier.

And furthermore ....

Tiger vs .....

Lee Buck Trevino
Raymond Floyd
Hale Irwin (although Augusta was never kind to him)
Seve Ballesteros

... or any of the past champions. I'm not saying they would win, but I think they would have shot at some pins and made some putts (I'd put my money on Ray Floyd with a 15 footer). I've watched every Masters for years and I found the end of this contest boring, as a matter of fact I didn't even watch the end of the last hole. I think Tiger could par the 18th at Augusta in his sleep (although he did make the birdie, again giving credit where due) I just wish someone had the COMPLETE GAME to put some pressure on him, for the sake of golf. These other guys DON'T DESERVE TO WIN A MAJOR when they ALWAYS PLAY SAFE.

I tip my hat to the champion - TIGER WOODS. At least he shoots at the pins; screw Ken Venturi always talking about playing it safe. THE FAINT OF HEART NEVER CAPTURED THE FAIR MAIDEN!!

For conversation's sake, let's suppose that in the upcoming U.S. Open, Tiger gets a feather in his butt and decides to do things a little differently. I'm laying 5-2 odds that on Day 1 of the Open, if Tiger appeared on the first tee in bib overalls, Tim Finchen would not object.

Well hope I don't sound nasty. But Jack was my man. Hell I grew up with him and Palmer. I know Tiger is dam good. But when he does get to the 18 majors won. And the 15 second places in the majors. Many people for get that about Jack. If im still a live. I will say he's the greatest. Mental and Guts. At this point that is what Tiger has. The others as someone said. They seem to play for second place.
