I keep seeing and hearing stuff like this, what is there three important races today?

I hardly see three races as a landslide, everyone puts too much into these off year races.

GOP victory today won't erase party's problems

WASHINGTON ? For Republicans, an election win of any size today would be a blessing. But victories in Virginia, New Jersey or elsewhere won't erase enormous obstacles the party faces heading into a 2010 midterm election year when control of Congress and statehouses from coast to coast will be up for grabs.

It's been a tough few years for the GOP. The party lost control of Congress in 2006 and then lost the White House in 2008 with three traditional Republican states ? Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia ? abandoning the party.

So even if political winds start blowing behind them and even if they can capitalize on Democratic missteps, Republicans still will have a long way to go over the next year because of their party's fundamental problems ? divisions over the path forward, the lack of a national leader and a shrinking base in a changing nation.

The GOP would overcome none of those hurdles should Republican Bob McDonnell win the Virginia governor's race, Chris Christie emerge victorious in the New Jersey governor's contest, or conservative Doug Hoffman triumph in a hotly contested special congressional election in upstate New York.

In fact, 2009 seems to have underscored what may be the biggest impediment for Republicans ? the war within their base.

Not that the GOP would brush off even a small stack of victories today.

One or more wins would give the Republicans a jolt, and a reason

to rally. Victories would help with fundraising and candidate recruiting. They might just be enough to reinvigorate a party that controlled the White House and Congress through much of this decade.

Viewed from the other side, a GOP sweep would be a setback for Democrats. It could be seen as a negative measure of President Barack Obama's standing and could signal trouble ahead as he seeks to get moderate Democratic lawmakers behind his legislative agenda and protect Democratic majorities in Congress next fall.

Still, the onus is on the GOP to get its act together. George W. Bush, the president many Republicans came to see as an election-day albatross, is gone, but the party troubles born under him linger.

They hardly roll over into the next year anyway. The 2010 races are the ones that matter. It would be hillarious if Hedgy loses all three though. haha

I would never get elected, I am not even 35 yet, so I cant run for President yet, I would be too radical, first thing I would do would be close the borders, round up all illegals and deport their asses, next thing I would do is stop all welfare, either work or go hungry, next thing, install a flat tax, all income is taxed at the same rate, regardless of how much money you make.

Wanna hear more:shrug:

Could you imagine the calls of being a flip flopper with hedge running.

He would decide to quit his campaign just to restart it hours later.

I thought you had me blocked. You are so full of shit.

Why don't you run for some local office? You have to start somewhere. You can make a difference. Someone had to clean up all those glory holes in your neighborhood.

Lets hope so.

Shirley Franklin is one person who is totally useless.
She has done nothing for Atl. The budget is a joke, waste and corruption have reigned during her entire term.

She comes out and endorses Kasim Reed

That sounds about right.

They were also going to circulate a radio ad in Atl that would say if Norwood was elected Atl would go back to dogs and clubs being used .

Yeh anything for a laugh Shirley

They have talked about her running for higher office. Lets hope not.

Go Norwood !

white power !

It really dont matter to me the reace. I have to believe in them. I have to believe that they will try to change things. I have to believe they are honest and hard working. I have to believe.

There are plenty of blacks that I cannot tolerate.

and I will talk shit about them. Because they are stupid ignorant racist morons.

Obama is not one of them. Too bad you will probably never understand that.

As hard as Fox News is trying to promote the three races tonight as being any sign of anything, they clearly aren't. Corzine is a politician with a long list of problems, represents everything people are upset with these days (big personal money financing of the campaign, lobbying and big money connections, former Wall Street bigwig, career politician). In the NY race, the republican dropped out of the race. In Virginia, in every election for the past bazillion years, the electorate has elected the opposing party of the most recently elected President.

If you can find some kind of momentum builder for republicans in that mess, more power to ya. It is interesting to note that there is a clear difference between the conservative party and the republican party there in NY. Maybe that's food for thought moving forward.
