Is it now a rule that at the end of games, when a team is down by 1 or tied....they must shoot a shot that is longer than 20 feet???

Is anyone else getting tired of seeing great athletes who are dumber than rocks? Mixed in with some average athletes who are smart and flop around like puzzies?

I've seen several times recently...a team has a chance to win on the last possession with plenty of time left and they just isolate and get a horrible shot. Or the game is tied and they shoot way too early only to give the other team a chance to shoot their own 25-footer.

I love college basketball but it has gone downhill in a lot of ways. The block/charge and a few other things have slowly ruined a great game. And the fact that you can't win without great athletes (unless you play like Duke) and 90% of those great athletes are literally pure idiots....makes it more and more difficult having to watch an idiot's game.

Syracuse/UConn was exciting and both teams gave all they had. But for the most part, UConn just throws the ball toward the basket and then 9 players jump for the rebound in typical big east fashion. Hello great athletes...you are allowed to box out. It gives you a great advantage. I guess I could go on and on even more than I did.

Love March Madness, but tired of seeing teams shoot 30-footers when all they need is 2 points or less. BC cost me a 3-team ML parlay that paid out 36-1 b/c they can't draw up and/or run a real play. Its not just the players, coaches do contribute.

I do like Boeheim, but he won't stray from that zone for even a couple key possessions so they can prevent huge 3-ptrs and control their def boards. But he got lucky and won anyway. And I made money so thats good :)

funny how you do not talk about the end of the game hose job by refs in unc game. replay showed haneslows right arm on player and left hand on player but they call a jump ball. can't wait to see haneblow try his flopping in the pros.

tdj, you are absolutely right. this has been a pet peeve of mine for a few years now. guys would rather hit a long jumper for the win than a layup. but i also put it more on the coaches than you do. do these guys bother drawing up plays? because if they do, they are terrible plays. and if guys aren't running the plays their coach calls, than they need to be benched. there is no control over the players any more. the superstars can just threaten to leave after one year if the coach tries to actually coach them. fundamentals are rapidly deteriorating. and don't even get me started on free throws. :)

uconn was a great example of what you're talking about. in the first 5 OT's, they had a chance to win at the end, and i think in only one of them did they actually run a play and get a decent shot. and 24 out of 42 free throws? they should not be a #1 seed. without dyson, this is not a top 4 team.

lowell..

Didn't get a good look at end of UNC game. Was at work and saw it from a distance on streaming internet feed and our computer isn't that good.

What I saw didn't look like a foul or a jump ball...looked like the guy walked. That said, I need to see a replay.

I will say that there was a huge play in UNC/Duke last week and it was Frasor taking a charge. I don't know...I'm all for position defense and don't consider it a flop...but thats not the kind of basketball I like to see and it tremedously helped UNC.

Also, as I said before, tired of seeing Hansbrough trying to get in position and fall down. He reminds me of Shaq flopping against the Magic.

Yeah, I will put a lot of blame on the coaches as well. Again, its like so many coaches just want to recruit the biggest, strongest, fastest guys who can jump the highest, etc. and the biggest part of their "coaching" is to motivate them and keep them out of trouble (or sweep their trouble under the table).

So at end of games, its again just a pickup game. Clear out and let the pt guard run the time down and beat his man. Too many times he can't and realizes time is gone and has to settle for not only a 3-ptr...but a LONG 3-ptr.

Very well said and I have thought the same thing many times over. This is not only the case in college, many NBA teams pull the same crap. Even if it's not in the closing seconds of a game, but rather a huge posession to swing momentum. Too many fade away 20 footers that clang iron and lose games period. Oh and did I mention that I'm usually on the wrong end of such a shot! Amen...

Trying to figure out why Hansbrough developed a vagina this season. Quit flopping and play defense.

Big men should not be falling down 20 feet from the basket after slight contact from guards. He's not playing position D, he's setting himself up and then falling back before contact trying to get a call.

You get enough calls on offense inside, quit flopping on defense. Maybe he's dating Scheyer now.

Case in point, Maryland down 5, 7 minutes left. Throwing up running one handed 15 footers down lane. Meanwhile Duke passing and getting layups. Dickhead coach letting the lead get to double digits before a T.O. ! Goodnight and see ya Turtlefawkers

I have said this for years. The coaching in this country is brutal at best. Think about it. Who grows up to be a coach? Most coaches were usually the best player growing up on their team and could only make it so far so they became a gym teacher. This guy who had the great ability, usually was also the dumbest guy on the team. Sure u have a few here in there that actually enjoy coaching and were not the best on the team, but mostly they all are these type of coaches. Go listen to a few of these coaches talk who coach in the nfl. Go listen to a guy like Larry Brown speak. He can't get one sentence out without using the two words "you know" in every sentence. Then we have the slicker coaches who get a little extra fixing games for the leagues they coach for. Lots of those coaches littered all over America. Seriously, have u ever heard a child say "I want to be a coach when i get older?" Nobody is looking to be a coach when they are even 18. Probably the easiest and best paying job in America especially when u can match up against a bunch of clowns who don't know the first thing about coaching. Try and get one of these jobs tho. Good luck.

Very true. My dad coached high school football for years. Played in college as a FB/LB way back but was mainly a kicker and then a year in the NFL. Said he knew all along he was going to be a coach if things didn't work out for a long-term playing career, so he learned all he could while playing.

He said while coaching he was literally head-and-shoulders above everyone else. Of course that's just the high school level, but he said he won so many games just b/c he knew way more than opposing coaches.

I would love to give Coach K credit...b/c he does a lot of things right...but they get away with murder every single game and flop/flail and it just takes away from everything he's ever done. He is a phony in every sense of the word.
