Solis-3/1) Has fallen off form lately but he was running against much, much tougher. Last time he ran at this level was in May 2004. He may have the edge over most of this field since he runs a mile and a half a lot. His stamina should help him run with these. This distance also seems to fit him best.
1A, SarafanGomez-3/1) Toss those last two high level stakes and he looks to be a solid pick. Loves to run on Del Mar's turf course. I think he should be the one to beat. Doesn't seem to want to win but its hard to see him losing this one. Does the 8 year old have it in him ?
2, BalustradeFarina-30/1) May not have it to run with these. Shouldn't threaten this group. Doesn't seem to have the speed needed to win.
3, Sleepless JoyValdivia-10/1) Gets some serious weight relief after carrying 130 pounds or more in 6 of his last 7 races. Grandson of Seattle Slew wil probably need the turf to be soft or soft to enhance his chances. Wouldn't surprise me, however, to see him hit the board.
4, Sanderman(CHI)Baze-20/1) Should be far too slow to even be considered a threat.
5, Qsar(GER)Valenzuela-7/2) Gets some class relief now and could see some improvement. Should be a step too slow to be a major threat to win. Do not overlook him for exotics.
6, Continental RedDouglas-7/2) Could challenge both the entries 1, Pellegrino or 1A, Sarafan for the win. Has enough speed to win if either entry falters. Rene Douglass should have the guile to give him every chance to win. Will need to bring his best to get the win.
7, Lara's Lucky BoyNakatani-5/2) Appears to be able to beat this field. May have to set the pace since there doesn't appear to be any early speed in this race. Bred to run on the turf. The question is will he fade in stretch ? Look for him to be among leaders at the end of the race.
8, Outta HereDesormeaux-8/1) Will be faced with a tough battle to win this one. Shouldn't do much in against this field. Will probably run with the pack but thats about it. Looking elsewhere.
Will be an excellent race to watch. My personal fav. is Qsar @ 7/2 or less.
