ESPN 3O for 30

Poor Bartman he seemed like a real fan of the game and all those chicago ass holes ruined his life. I tried to find out any info about him after watching that 30/30 last night but couldn't. I was actually mad at myself for watching because of how bad I felt for Bartman back then and even more now. I wanted to reach out to him. I hope he is happy now. Also fuck all of those fans that blamed him!

i for one was screaming for them to "let him catch it" as the ball was drifting back toward alou....
that said.....i still believe to this day it was fan interference and the ump fucked it up.

was i pissed at bartman.....umm, yeah, i was pissed at everyone around him for acting like 5 years old hoping for a ball.

but

no way did he deserve the shit he got at the game, after the game, the next day and for the next 8 years......the loser stalking him in the parking lot to get an interview 4 years later is....a loser.

the blame goes to:

the cubs for falling apart
alex gonzalez for booting an inning ending dp
mark prior for falling apart
dusty baker for not slowing the game down (surprised they didnt mention the game went from 3-0 to 8-3 in about 15 pitches)
kerry wood for blowing the next game up 5-3

credit should be given to

the marlins offense for hitting the crap out of the ball the last 11 innings of the series
jack mckeon who ran circles around dusty baker and used his entire roster (beckett in releif in game 7 was the actual key to shutting the cubs down)

Dusty Baker could have defused quite a bit of it in his post game comments, but instead he made the statement "was probably a Marlin fan".

I don't think it was fan interference. Alou was going into the stands and the bal hit right at the railing basically. It would have been interference had Bartman reached distinctly over the railing.

Bartman fucked up? How? Did you not see the other fans right next to him doing the same thing? The guy to his left was in the 30for30 and an OTL special. That guy said he would've walked out like nothing happened, and basically challenged anyone who had a problem with it. Bartman did what you know damn well you would've done. That ball wasn't tailing back towards Alou. It certainly wasn't interference according to the rules. It states that if the fielders glove goes into the stands, it's fair ball to anyone. Which you CLEARLY see his glove do. Moises Alou has never been known for some amazing fielder, so lets not just assume he would've caught that.

Another out closer? The only thing that would've done is made it a 7-3 game instead of 8-3 :142smilie

I've always said Dusty Baker should have gone out to the mound after that pitch. He had 2 visits left and hadn't been out there that inning. If I'm the manager and I see 9 guys yelling over what just happened, and my left fielder is throwing a temper tantrum, I'm going to go out there, bring the infield to the mound and calm them down. I can almost guarantee you he would have said throw a groundball and lets turn two. Maybe Alex Gonzalez isn't so jacked up by the previous play that it became taylor made like it should have been.

As far as the Bartman thing, being a Cubs fan I was pretty disgusted at the time. I can't express to you the feeling that everyone had after that happened - everyone knew that the Cubs were gonna lose. That's just the way things are as a Cubs fan. However the shit that everyone put him through was horrible. I feel really bad for the guy, and I hope everyone that watched last night does too. I almost puked watching the guy whip his beer at him. I wonder if he wasn't so subdued and distraught by the play if it would have blown out of proportion the way it did. He was an easy target. He looked like a dork and got picked on unfairly by everyone.

This would have happened in every ballpark in the same situation. I myself can honestly say I would have gone for the ball too (especially if I was drunk). Only difference is I would have caught it.

Funny how some people get off the hook in these matters, like Gonzalez and Stanley. .... Jose Lind had a big error before Barry Bond's ill -fated throw on Sid Bream against the Braves which everyone forgets.
