On the course!
feminism run amuck....women fight to gain the access that male reporters have....on the field..even in the locker room....

and yet can`t handle being called"sweetie"?...

would he have been fired for calling a male reporter "asshole" at a meeting?....

it`s a whole new world,man !:00x24

I don't blame her.

Seriously. Who are these old fuckers, anyway?

He probably refers to Gilmore as, "boy".

Gilmore's wife looks like the homeless dude with the radio voice, btw.

:mj07: ..ouch !...

i agree that calling her an asshole was over the line...and the fact that he resorted to the "asshole" comment might indicate that the context of his initial "sweet baby" comment might not have been as benign as it seems in print....after rereading it,i`m pretty sure that`s the case..

i guess you had to be there...

i wonder how men would react if they were not the dominate sex. Im just asking this question? Would u want ur mom or sister dealing with some of this garbage that woman deal with today? Face it boys woman are 70 percent of coillege enrollment today so if this hurts ur feelings now good luck for u down the road. Heck the only reason we need rape laws is because a pretty big percentage of men are weak jackasses.

"Now we lose Quality play by play due to some Thin Skinned Useless Sideline "Reporter"

Totally agree. Useless. Can anyone actually stand to listen to a woman do football play-by-play? It's just not right, and I am NOT a sexist.

Sorry but I disagree with most of you here. I always liked Franklin as a play-by-play announcer. Always thought he did a professional job. But you cannot talk to anybody the way he did to this woman, it was demeaning & sexist. And it wasn't in a meeting, it was just a few guys standing around shooting the shit & since this woman works with these guys, she chimed in. Btw I have been to many meetings when I worked & nobody talked disrespectful to anybody or else they would have been fired.

Judging by what transpired with Franklin & this reporter & what people wrote in this thread, women still have a way to go for equality.

Thanks Z :

Anyway it all comes down to Thin Skin: People say things all the Time in Meetings and that's where it should stay :
If there is a problem with him then she should try and work it out between themselves before going to the extreme..
I know it was a Colleague who went Whining and that person is a Sally Snitch..
If she was so offended she should have went and fought her own battle..............

Still a Useless Sideline Reporter..They all are!!!

Sorry PRO, but it comes down to respect....& I agree somewhat with you about sideline reporters....

AR, I understand that Respect, decorum, manners, etiquette, couth and the rest of the proper Human Relation nouns, adjectives etc etc should be followed when interacting with your colleagues...
That being said sometimes people say things they shouldn't.. If you are Adult enough you take care of it YOURSELF...
Cmon being FIRED over some WORDS that HURT HER FEELINGS  ....
Maybe I'm SEXIST..I have NO PROBLEM with WOMEN being in Sports Reporting , I have a Major Problem when Women want to be Part of the Lockeroom... They want a fair playfield ,well that goes both ways,OPEN UP THE WOMENS LOCKEROOM FOR FULL ACCESS & VIEW!!!!!

All the FIRING of Franklin does is make it Tougher for Women to be Respected in the Sports Field!
Male Sports figures will Always be Looking Over Their Shoulder with a DISTRUSTING EYE!!!!

Congratulations Jeannine, You just set your XX colleagues Ten Steps to the REAR!!!!

Thank-You:rimshot

While I am not so sure that Franklin should have been fired for this, I understand why ESPN did it....For years they have been called out for being a boys club & with the Harold Reynolds & Steve Phillips incidents still on the publics minds, they had to do it....I hope this 1 incident doesn't tarnish Franklin's career, but unfortunately I think he may have trouble finding employment....

Thats just it Al. Franklin has been rumored to be not the easiest guy to get along with. Was he a bit over the top ? Most certainly, but not until the A-hole comment. At what point was it cast in stone that a spat betwen two colleagues must have a person's job hanging over it ?

Franklin will find a Job..If Marv Albert can comeback so then will Mr. Franklin :D...

This is HER SIDE of the Story...

ESPN sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards wants to clear up a few things about Friday's incident where she says she stood up to colleague Ron Franklin after the radio announcer allegedly made sexist comments that led to the network yanking him from Fiesta Bowl coverage this weekend.

In an email to Game On!'s Michael McCarthy, Edwards said she wanted to clarify what exactly happened. The dust-up between Edwards and Franklin was broken by SportsbyBrooks.

First of all, Edwards says Franklin called her "sweet baby," not "sweet cakes." Second, it wasn't Edwards that reported Franklin's behavior to the ESPN brass. It was a colleague who did that, she says. But yes, it's true. Edwards says Franklin did call her an "a--hole."

The trouble started, she said, during a production meeting before Friday's Chick Fil-A Bowl that was also attended by ESPN announcers Rod Gilmore and Ed Cunningham.

Edwards says she was talking with Gilmore about his wife being elected mayor of Alameda, California. After a few minutes, she said Franklin joined in the conversation and said, "Listen to me sweet baby, let me tell you something . . . " with a condescending tone.

Edwards says she told Franklin not to address her like that. To which Franklin said, according to Edwards: "OK, then listen to me a-hole."

She says she told Franklin she didn't appreciate his attitude -- and asked why he was stooping to such levels. Florida Sate head coach Jimbo Fisher then arrived and they proceeded with the meeting. Edwards and Franklin both worked the game.

Afterwards, a colleague reported the incident to ESPN management, she said. SportsbyBrooks said ESPN tried to pull Franklin from the Chick Fil-A coverage that night but didn't have enough time. With the duo scheduled to work together again Saturday night, ESPN decided to pull Franklin from its Fiesta Bowl radio coverage. He was replaced by Dave LaMont.

"We made a late play-by-play change to the Fiesta Bowl radio team," says ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz in a statement. "We're not going to get into specifics other than to say adhering to our personal conduct policies and showing respect for colleagues are of the utmost importance to our company and we take them extremely seriously."

-- Michael McCarthy

Who was the wuss that Reported the incident..
Had to be Gilmore or Cunningham as they were only others there
