Fair and slanted: Fox executives funnel cash to Santorum, GOP

RAW STORY
Published: February 28, 2006

Fox News host and commentator Sean Hannity may have been recently singled out, but he isn't the only News Corporation employee padding the re-election coffers of Rick Santorum (R-PA), RAW STORY has learned.

A simple search of Federal Election Commission records reveals that many News Corp. employees, including chairman and chief executive officer Rupert Murdoch, have made direct, personal donations to the Senator's re-election campaign, as well as other mostly Republican candidates.

Records indicate that in November, 2005, Murdoch personally donated $2,100 to Santorum's campaign. This wasn't he first monetary gift Murdoch made to Santorum; the right wing media mogul shelled out $1,000 to elect the Senator in 2000.

Santorum isn't the only Republican candidate Murdoch is putting his money behind. In addition to a $5,000 donation to the Republican National Committee, Murdoch has also given generously to the Longhorn Political Action Committee, which distributes funds exclusively to Republican candidates and seems to favor candidates in Texas.

A review of declared donations indicates that, with few exceptions (such as Chernin's donations to Berman for Congress and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Greta Van Susteren's donation to her sister's campaign for Senate) higher-ups at the "fair and balanced" cable news outlet overwhelmingly give GOP.

Two Fox Government Relations executives have also given to Santorum. Michael Regan and Paul Jackson have doled out $2,100 and $1,500 to the senator's re-election campaign, respectively. Regan has also donated $1,000 each to the Republican National Committee and Longhorn PAC.

The PAC seems to be a favorite recipient for Fox executives. President and Chief Operating Officer Peter Chernin, International President Joseph Traynor, Senior Executive Vice President Lawrence Jacobs, Director Lachlan Martin, Asst. Controller Anthony Santabarbara, Attorney Arthur Siskind, and Executive Vice Presidents David De Voe, Gary Ginsberg, Paul Haggerty, John Hallen, Leon Hertz, Ian Moore, and Martin Pompadur have all given over $200 to the PAC this election cycle.

Longhorn has distributed $23,466 to Republican House candidates for the coming elections. Indicted former speaker Tom DeLay and fellow Texas Republican Michael McCaul have each received $5,000 of the sum. Of the remaining 22 candidates Longhorn has supported, just one received a donation of more than $1,000 (Van Taylor, another Texan).

A review of declared donations indicates that, with few exceptions (such as Chernin's donations to Berman for Congress and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Greta Van Susteren's donation to Van Susteren for Senate,) Fox higher-ups overwhelmingly give Republican.

Glad to know who gave 200$ to whom. Must be another "secretive" operation that we now have uncovered

Now lets see the rest of the mainstream media. I am sure CBS, CNN, NYT, NBC, ABC are much more "fair and balanced".

I give Fox that much credit. They more or less admit there Reb's. And they admit there fair and balanced is there slant of Fair and balanced. Does not make it anymore accurate then any other network. I just rather some how someone keeps the news honest how refreshing that would be.

I have no problem checking that out and seeing who else donated to what political entity. It does give some perspective, doesn't it?

So, anytime you want to find that out and post it for review, go for it. It probably does happen, and I'd like to see it. So far, here, we have a good example of probable media bias, and typically, the comment from the right is a deflection from the point.

LMAO

Of course we can definite see the bias!!!

The mainstream media has been biased for YEARS!!!

Yet the only time they ever do research on political contributions is when there is an outlet that is NOT LEFTIST!!!!!

A PERFECT EXAMPLE SHOWING MORE OF THE SAME BIAS!!!!

The topic was Fox News wasn't it? I know, the truth hurts huh Clem?? lol

Or should we be talking about CBS News' new Bush approval rating poll that came out yesterday?

You do know they polled a disproportionate amount of democrats as opposed to republicans right?

Good, just wanted to be fair and balanced. :bigear:

Oh ok, sorry to piss on your liberal parade. My appologies. I just can't figure out why the other news outlets are suffering so much. Oh well. I guess if Americans are given a choice between trusting conservatives as opposed to trusting liberals the numbers speak for themselves, just like they did on 11/2/04.

Sorry for going off topic Clem...next time don't let it get to you.

With the state of the liberal slanted constant Bush-bashing media, it's no wonder. I guess Bush getting re-elected was just a fluke lol. You liberals are just whiners who are obsessed with acting like crybabies. My god I read all ythe threads in here today and you liberals can do nothing else but complain and whine every day. How can you stand being such crybabies?

And another thing this ihas been your way for as long as you have been here,

You post something wait until you figure the person you directed it at read it and than edit your thread a few minutes later. I can point out hundreds of occasions but I have a life.

This is why noone likes you and why most ignore you. i should learn.

Grouping CNN and MSNBC with FNC is not a direct comparison. CNN and MSNBC are news organizations. FNC is a news commentary organization that gives a conservative perspective on news events.

The point is that comparing them is not fair. FNC is entertainment, while CNN and MSNBC give news and balanced commentary. You see, that gives FNC an edge because they are able to appeal to all the bitter right wingers who don't like to accept the straight news. It's like the Air America of the right, except far, far more professionally run.

"The point is that comparing them is not fair. FNC is entertainment, while CNN and MSNBC give news and balanced commentary. "

You can't be serious Nick?

Maybe we need to do forum project to clear the air on fair and balanced.

I'll take Oreilly and list his topics of discussion on a night of anyones choosing and they take their equivilant on CNN MSNBC--then list those brought in to give their side per topic--and we'll resolve the fair and balanced issue once and for all.--any takers??

Back to issue of Fox donations--so far I see where some give to rebs and some to Dems--with large lean to Rebs.

Now someone tell me if CBS -MSNBC-CNN would not have same results in the other direction?--so wheres the beef?
Your getting status quo if you add all the other cable networks up and compare to fox--your getting equal airtime--then consider all those with no cable who are force fed NBC CBS ABC with no other alternative?
