i think that in addition to switching #1's this year, they also gave atlanta a 2nd rounder this year & a 2nd rounder next year.

i hadn't read anything about houston's interest in garcia...i read that their main interest was in plummer.....

They had interest in Plummer and Garcia. Not sure why with Garcia because as stated,he stinks on bad teams.
I agree the Texans MUST address O-Line.
They add Schaub(QB) and Ahman Green(RB).Both upgrades. Now time to get that stud Tackle to help them if they want to win with them.

Again they didn't give up a 2nd round pick this season in theory because they were going to pick a QB with it anyway. So in theory the Texans 2nd Round Pick was Schaub. The only thing extra they lost was a 2nd next year and down from 8 to 10(that might cost them Levi Brown though).

Falcons eye Rattay as possible backup QB

By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 03/26/07

Tim Rattay, who played the past two seasons with Tampa Bay, has been contacted by the Falcons about their backup quarterback position.

"We've had some conversations with them, but nothing is imminent right now," Jim Steiner, Rattay's agent, said Sunday.

With the trade of Matt Schaub, the Falcons don't have a quarterback on the roster who has played in an NFL game in the past three seasons.

They signed Chris Redman last week, but he hasn't played since the 2003 season. D.J. Shockley and James Kilian have not played in any regular-season games.

Rattay, a seven-year veteran, has started 18 games and played in 36 games. He spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before his stint with Tampa Bay. During his career, Rattay has completed 60.7 percent of his passes, thrown 28 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

The Falcons also are in discussions with Anthony Wright, who was Cincinnati's No. 2 quarterback last season.

Three teams are interested in Wright, according to his agent Joel Segal.

retarded front office.

as if Houston was going to do anything good with those draft picks anyway. :com:

Fiedler to work out with Falcons

By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 04/04/07

The Falcons search for a backup quarterback has shifted to Jay Feidler, who's battling back from a severe shoulder injury.

Feidler, a former starter with the Miami Dolphins, is set to workout Wednesday for the Falcons in Flowery Branch, according to his agent Bryan Levy.

The Falcons do not comment about visiting free agents.

With the recent trade of Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans, the Falcons don't have a backup quarterback on the roster who's played in a NFL game over the past three seasons. Recently signed Chris Redman last played during the 2003 season.

Second-year man D.J. Shockley, a highly regarded former seventh-round pick, did not play in any regular season games last season. The Falcons also have quarterback James Kilian, a former seventh round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs and ex-Arena Football player with the Nashville Kats, on the roster.

Feidler, a 12-year veteran, sat out last season rehabilitating his right, throwing shoulder after being released by Tampa Bay in June.

Feidler last played in week 3 of the 2005 season while a member of the New York Jets. Playing in relief of Chad Pennington, he suffered the serious shoulder injury in a 26-20 loss to Jacksonville.

Feidler, 35 and a Dartmouth grad, also has played with Philadelphia, Minnesota and Jacksonville. He's played in 76 games with 60 starts and is a 58.7 percent career passer.

He's thrown 69 touchdowns and 66 interceptions.

He led the Dolphins to back-to-back 11-5 seasons in 2000 and 2001. They reached the playoffs both seasons with Feidler posting a 1-2 record in the postseason.

This is why the Falcons will never win a Superbowl. This organization has probably made more boneheaded decisions than any other team in the league. This is a team that:
1. Gave up Favre
2. Used their first pick one season to draft TE Reggie Kelly
3. Drafted T.J. Duckett in the first round back in '02 when they already had signed Warrick Dunn to a huge contract (they could have used that pick to address more important needs at that time, such as WR)
4. Gave up the farm to get Peerless Price in '03
5. Paid out the ass to get Edgerton Hartwell, an overrated LB who has yet to play a full season (this guy keeps getting hurt...he should change his name to Hurtwell).

Poor, poor Falcons. These guys are the comic relief of the NFL.....

Not to mention Abraham and his groin pulls that keep him out for the season.

The Jets are still laughing about that one.

Yeah, that was a tough break for the Falcons! However, I wouldn't classify the Abraham acquisition as a 'boneheaded' decision because out of the last several years of big free agent signings, Abraham was the most proven player. Peerless Price only had one big season prior to signing with Atlanta and he never was a #1 go-to-guy (yet the Falcons paid him as if he was a proven #1 go-to-guy). Actually, I just thought of another boneheaded move: the release of Patrick Kerney! Why in the world would they give up their only consistent defensive player?? If Abraham gets injured again that defense is gonna be in a world of hurt.

I strongly criized the Falcons when they got Peerless Price. Very bad move there looking back on it.

I never have cared much for Kerney. He was all show and no smack them down and stomp them.

Abraham has shown a awesome ability when he has played, but his psychee may not be one that can get through a whole season without injury.

Atlanta Falcons 2007 Draft Preview
By Tony Moss, NFL Editor

(Sports Network) - The Falcons have multiple needs on defense, and with the No. 8 overall pick (obtained in the Matt Schaub trade) could justify selecting any of the following players - safeties LaRon Landry (LSU) and Reggie Nelson (Florida), tackles Amobi Akoye (Louisville) and Alan Branch (Michigan), and defensive ends Gaines Adams (Clemson) and Jamaal Anderson (Arkansas). Atlanta could also use a cornerback to play opposite DeAngelo Hall and is in need of depth at linebacker, but those positions look like more of a second-round focus at this stage. If Atlanta takes an offensive player on the first day, he is likely to be an offensive lineman to help protect Michael Vick. Wide receiver is less of a need after the team obtained Joe Horn off the free agent wire. The Schaub trade gives the team a void at backup QB, and it seems obvious that the Falcons will take a signal-caller in the middle rounds to compete with Chris Redman and D.J. Shockley for that job.

2006 Record: 7-9

First Pick: No. 8

Number of Selections: 10 (1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 6, 7)

RECENT FIRST ROUND HISTORY: 2006 - none; 2005 - Roddy White (WR, UAB); 2004 - DeAngelo Hall (CB, Virginia Tech), Michael Jenkins (WR, Ohio State); 2003 - none; 2002 - T.J. Duckett (RB, Michigan State); 2001 - Michael Vick (QB, Virginia Tech); 2000 - none; 1999 - Patrick Kerney (DE, Virginia); 1998 - Keith Brooking (LB, Georgia Tech); 1997 - Michael Booker (CB, Nebraska); 1996 - none; 1995 - Devin Bush (S, Florida State); 1994 - none; 1993 - Lincoln Kennedy (OT, Washington); 1992 - Bob Whitfield (OT, Stanford), Tony Smith (RB, Southern Mississippi); 1991 - Bruce Pickens (CB, Nebraska), Mike Pritchard (WR, Colorado); 1990 - Steve Broussard (RB, Washington State).

CDS has learned that the Atlanta Falcons are in discussions with the Detroit Lions about packaging the #8 pick (recently received from Houston in the Matt Schaub deal) and a second round pick to move up to #2 and grab Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson. They also are reportedly after the other hometown "CJ"--Georgia DE Charles Johnson, and would be willing to package another 2nd rounder and WR Roddy White in order to move back into the mid-first round area to get him too.

If the Falcons pull these two moves off, they will be a definite force to be reckonned with. We cringe (as fans of any other NFL team) at the thought of having Marcus Vick throwing to the new "Freak"--Calvin Johnson. And Charles Johnson would more than make up for the loss of DE Patrick Kearney.
..............................................

I found this on a Falcons blog. I do not think this person is a riable source on the matter.

There is no way they take CJ.

all they would have is Vick and CJ to win the games. Something tells me that effort would fall well short of a winning season in 2007

i read on a football site that there is a team with one of the top picks who is almost certain that oakland will take johnson.now this could be davis trying to milk his pick to work out a trade for additional draft picks.

Falcons meet with ex-Lions QB Harrington

By STEVE WYCHE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 04/06/07

Continuing their search to find a veteran quarterback to compete for the backup job to starter Michael Vick, the Atlanta Falcons met with former Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins quarterback Joey Harrington Friday, according to his agent, Joby Branion.

Harrington is the second quarterback to visit with the Falcons this week. Jay Fiedler, a former starter with the Dolphins, was the other. Atlanta has spoken with the agents for quarterbacks Anthony Wright and Tim Rattay over the past few weeks, but there have been no developments.

Contract talks had not been broached with Harrington, according to Branion. Harrington also did not have to go through a workout, Branion said.

The third overall pick in the 2002 draft by Detroit, Harrington struggled in his four seasons trying to pull the woeful franchise from its longstanding battle with futility. Harrington was traded to Miami before last season and started 11 games in place of injured starter Daunte Culpepper, losing six.

He was released after the season.

There will be no competition to be Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick's backup.

Coach Bobby Petrino said Tuesday that Joey Harrington, signed to a two-year, $6 million contract Monday, is the No. 2 quarterback. Harrington started from 2002-2005 with Detroit and 11 games for the Miami Dolphins last season.

The competition between local product D.J. Shockley, one-time Baltimore Ravens starting quarterback Chris Redman and former Tulsa University standout James Killian will be for the No. 3 job, Petrino said.

Shockley was Atlanta's third quarterback last season, behind Vick and Matt Schaub, who recently was traded to Houston.

"We certainly see Joey coming in as our backup with the experience that he has and what we believe he brings to the table," Petrino said. " We'll have great competition for the other spot."
...............................................................

sure makes me feel good to have Harrington one step away from being the Falcons QB.

Damn.... this is nuts paying this guy that much money.

Falcons Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last Friday, the team disclosed Tuesday - the first day of a three-day mini camp. Crumpler was not in attendance at new coach Bobby Petrino's first on-field workouts with the team.

The procedure was to repair minor damage and to clear out debris, the team said. No timetable was given for his return.

Crumpler, who led the Falcons with 56 receptions for 780 yards and a career-high 8 touchdowns, has been bothered by problems with his left knee for two seasons and was frequently held out of at least one practice a week during the season to ease wear and tear.

Crumpler did not have any work done on his knee last summer but he did have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder.

Eric Beverly, Dwayne Blakley and Daniel Fells took the repetitions at tight end during drills Tuesday.
..............................................................

Alge needs to push away from the table and his knees will be much better.

why does a NFL player wait until mini camp to decide to get surgery ?>
