Even coach Jim Schwartz admits he has lost the rudderless Lions. If he?s not fired for the effort Detroit put up last week in getting pummeled in the desert by terrible Arizona, then I feel for Lions fans. How can a team with Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh be this terrible!?

the Falcons have historically had trouble with the Lions.

Not this game.

Detroit is discouraged and just want to get the season over with.

Falcons stronger motivations win this game.

if you can put your finger on the game motivations
then you can clean clocks in sports wagering

it dont work at the start and middle games, but end of the season type games, it is money

Just one good night in Detroit will set the Falcons up for a relatively relaxed three weeks in Atlanta.

Win at Detroit on Saturday and the Falcons (12-2) will earn a bye for the first weekend of the playoffs and wouldn?t need to leave the Georgia Dome to win the NFC title. The result of their game against the Buccaneers on Dec. 30 would become moot.

For the Falcons, it?s all about clinching home field when they go to Detroit?s Ford Field.

?That?s the thing that is in reach,? Falcons coach Mike Smith said. ?We?ve got to go out and play effectively this week. Our goal is to win every game we play and then we will figure out what happens after that.?

Defeat the Lions (4-10) and Falcons players are likely to be off until after Christmas Day. When they returned to work, the team?s regulars would enjoy a light practice week and look forward to either sitting out the Buccaneers game or logging just a handful of plays.

Lose to the Lions and Atlanta still could earn home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs by defeating the Buccaneers. But they?d squander the other benefits of wrapping up the No. 1 seed this weekend and lose the good vibes generated by their 34-0 victory over the Giants last Sunday.

The Falcons ultimately will be judged by their postseason results because they?ve lost all three playoff games under Smith. A victory at Detroit would be more evidence that they are primed to end that streak.

?Are we different (at this point of the season) than we have been in the past? Absolutely, we are definitely a different football team,? Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said. ?But I think our confidence has been at a high level the entire year.?

The Falcons will encounter a wounded and wobbling Lions team at Ford Field.

Detroit is finishing up a miserable, injury-riddled season. The Lions have lost six games in a row, including a 38-10 defeat at Arizona (5-9) on Sunday that represented their worst beating of the season.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he has no plans to alter his playing rotations to get his younger players experience.

note the younger players are better at this point

The only compelling storyline remaining for the Lions is wide receiver Calvin Johnson?s chase for an NFL record. Johnson, the former star at Sandy Creek High and Georgia Tech, needs 182 yards to break Jerry Rice?s season record for receiving yards ( 1,848).

The Falcons said they don?t want to get too focused on limiting Johnson?s numbers.

The Falcons still need to tune their play before the postseason. At the top of the list are their season-long issues with both running the ball and stopping the run consistently.

Plus, it was less than two weeks ago that the Falcons flopped in a 30-20 defeat at Carolina.

Falcons starting safety William Moore did not participate in practice Friday and is listed as questionable to play against the Lions. Moore has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury.

Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) is listed as doubtful and safety Louis Delmas (knee) is questionable. Pettigew did not practice on Friday.:0074

Hope fined at Christmas

The league fined Falcons safety Chris Hope $30,000 on Friday for his helmet-to-helmet against Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz.

It's a short week once again and there's no rest for the weary, not even the five big guys on the Falcons' offensive line that had as much to do with Sunday's 34-0 shelling of the New York Giants as any other position. Against a front four that head coach Mike Smith said in the days leading up to the game is the best in the NFL, they allowed one sack and three QB hits of Matt Ryan.

Ryan had the time to do what he needed to do and the Falcons' offense rolled in the win. They posted 34 points, but perhaps even bigger was the nearly 40 minutes they were on the field against New York's defense. All that time meant the Falcons were converting downs, getting protection for Ryan and moving the ball.

While they may have enjoyed winning big, the five linemen charged with protecting Ryan can't rest on their laurels this week. A trip to Detroit always means another fierce front four and in the Lions' case, a front four with a reputation. It won't be easy, but last week showed that Atlanta can pass protect with the best of them.

?Our offensive line did a great job last week against a really good front four," Ryan said on Tuesday. "We?re going against another really good front four this week. They pressure the passer really well and they do a great job against the run also. Two weeks in a row we?re going to have our work cut out for us and we need to prepare well this week and execute on Saturday.?

The Giants' 32 sacks this season ranks 16th in the league and Detroit is one behind them with 31. Although they've had some stretches where they haven't done as well as they would've liked, the Falcons offensive line has played well collectively all season. They're ranked seventh in the NFL in sacks allowed with 25. If anything was learned from last week by the O-line, it's that when they dominate, the Falcons can dominate.

I'm not. I'm just confused why you would stress that third rule when you are making a play on your home team.

I've seen KOD go against the Falcons plenty of times in the past. He's a fan of $$$, not the jersey color.

its rule # 2

Reduce the risk

I decided not to play it giving points. It could be a close game. Falcons have a good FG kicker. They could win by 3. That .5 bothers me.

This is just the way I think about things. Play what you want.

it seems simple enough

NFL .................. 3-4 - $1,297.00

Falcons dug in and forced this win in Detroit.

Now they can lay back and rest up for the upcoming playoff run.

If they get a stinking team in the first game of the playoffs they will more than likely win. Then the pressure will be off them as they have not won a playoff game in years.

But the second game will be the test.

It will be a solid team and the Falcons will really have to step up to win.

Mike Nolan is the reason the Falcons are where they are at. Somehow even after losing their best corner to injury, the Falcons still kept the defense decent all year.

The Falcons should do everything in their power to keep Mike Nolan here and not let him go head coach shopping.

Any thoughts on adding Rule #12?

Yeh I been thinking about that lately.

I am very superstitious about numbers . I cant help it and I have always been that way.

I can give many life lessons where numbers have affected me in some way or another.

it took me 6 years to come up with that list.

If I change it , I will have to go to 17

any thoughts
