I think there's so many good music station why listen to BS. These talk show host say anything they want. Many times just plain BS or half truths. They love them self's so much. And this goes for right and left both. I find so much sports and music comedy on XM. I keep resigning. It's well worth the money for all the options I have.

What are some of us, so afraid of ? To even suggest we need a fairness doctrine is absurd. Let the left and the right say what they want. Just because you can control someones right to say something does't change what they think. Most of the time it won't change what people think. The liberals bludgeoned Ronald Reagan and the American people gave him 4 more years. The right, lead by Rush Limbaugh bloodied Clinton and the American people gave him 4 more years. Are the politicians that bring this up serious ? Are they stupid or do they think we are ? If you are for the fairness doctrine forget about illegal immigrants. Your citizenship should be revoked and you should be shipped to somewhere over the rainbow . Are you kidding me ? Fairness doctrine ? That's about the most anti American thing I have ever heard !!!

if it were, i would listen to it. Good thing there is Sirius satellite radio. On Sirius, you have both left and right wing, it's only fair.

Fair ? Who said anything about life being fair ? It's not and some like the fact that they have an edge over people that think like you. If you get up every day and think it would be nice if life was fair ? You missed the bus . Start walking and you will never catch up ! Please tell me you are a 20 something rich kid born with a platinum spoon in his mouth !

What are they going to vote on this wk ? Maybe they will vote on a way to help save American LIFE in Iraq. Maybe they Will find a way to get some armored vehicles over there to save a few spleens and brains ! These guys don't think about the obvious. If you are a politician you don't need a spleen or a brain for the job. If you are a soldier, coming back if you make it back, in the real world it helps ! You want to talk about fair ?

and i have an honest question for chad. are there right wingers who are moving to promote "equality and fairness" in the "left leaning" media?

Sorry, I missed this question before. Will address. I don't know of any right wingers who are doing what you suggest, although not sure what or how they would go about it. The print media is not an issue, because it is a pay for play situation, if readers do not like they message they simply will not pay for it. I guess that's what you are referring to, I dunno. With public radio stations, they are regulated by the FCC, and have to maintain a balance to hold their license. When a news conglomerate buys up several stations in a market and puts on only one consistent message - liberal or conservative - it would not be in the public interest. Free public airwaves, limited frequencies - especially in singular markets, controlled message to affect political opinions.

Dogs, essentially, I have no problem with your PBS examination, if it is one-sided (and I can allow for that although I don't listen) then it should be looked at - same as other public radio. Even moreso if it gets public funding. The other issue is, though, how many people listen to NPR? A minute number, right? So, it's effect is far less harmful to a fair message than corporate buyouts of big talk radio stations.

WTF are you talking about? If you have the Sirius service and you're right or left at lease you have the opportunity to listen to what you want, it's there. Life is not fair that's why the American public is being led into debt and wars. The government is lining their pockets with money from big business, importing slaves from Mexico and exporting jobs. American public is fat and happy, they are more concerned about things like when can i get the Iphone, or did you see American Idol last night, or how is Paris Hilton doing now. Do you know that Americans are now in negitive savings? Spending more money than they make, they make money the old fashion way, they borrow it. When is this shipwreck going to sink? Repubs are trying to destroy the middle class, and you're fight to the death to see that happen.

bryanz and weasel......together again....lol

seriously guys...i guess everybody realizes that THE GOVERNMENT will decide what`s fair and what`s not...this is hugo chavez` territory...

what this will do.....the way it`s being positioned(for a.m. radio only,btw....how`d public radio slip through the cracks?)will be to force programmers to replace profitable conservative talk radio with some liberal programming ala air america....

and air america can`t hold it`s own water...it`s lost more money than pete rose at santa anita(not a shot at libs...it`s just that for the most part, conservative radio thrives and liberal talk doesn`t...i don`t know why...maybe because of the liberal bent of the rest of the media...maybe it helps strike some sort of balance)...

so,when talk radio ratings inevitably tank....when profits go south.....advertisers will abandon ship...and change their formats..... ..

this way,it will be just like old times...the liberal point of view will have the print media.....the entertainment industry(hollywood/t.v./network and cable news with the exception of fox).....academia....

that`s the plan....and it`s actually brilliant....kudos to the dems.....they get several things that they crave....the largest conservative media voice silenced under the beard of "fairness"(i think that`s just brilliant strategy)..... ...and the government(nanny state) becomes the arbiter of what is and is not considered free speech...the precedent will be set....

if they could have slipped the fairness doctrine through....along with passing the immigration bill(with the blessing of an asshole or two:lindsay graham/trent lott...and one flaming asshole:chimpy mcbushitler)they could have possibly ended the 2 party system as we know it....

i still think it`s there for them...when hillary wins in 08....

it`s strange that as europe has tilted more conservative of late..... consevatism as we know it in america is living on borrowed time...

very odd...

Not really. Even when Europe gets a little more economically conservative, they are overall still far more "left" than the US.

We were getting overall more conservative from 1980 til the Iraq War. I know people around here bitch about us becoming socialist, but we've been getting more conservative for a long time. Even if we take a steps to the left at this point, we will still be far more conservative than Europe....or even ourselves in the 1970's.

Don't be fooled by your bad vision Weasel. Maybe you should travel to Europe and check it out yourself.

This is what i just can't figure out and beg someone to please explain it to me. What is conservative about this administration or daddy's or Regans? When i look up the word conservative its completely opposite of what these administrations do. There needs to be another word to describe these guys. They are so far from the word conservative its not even funny. There is nothing about huge deficits and debt that is conservative unless these points don't count toward their definition.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I don't even use the word accurately anymore. I should say "right wing", not conservative.

really -how so

con?ser?va?tive [ kən s?rvətiv ]
adjective

Definition:
1. reluctant to accept change: in favor of preserving the status quo and traditional values and customs, and against abrupt change

---and liberal still comes out a 4 letter word--oops forgot--your trying to get away from that tag--and prefer "progressive" label. :)

can't say I blame you ;)

By that definition, Reagan was far from conservative. He made abrupt changes to the economy that had basically been unchanged since the depression. ...These changes are considered to have been necessary and helped spur a great run of prosperity.

He also embraced fundamental Christianity - another significant change in politics. The status quo would have been to leave religous zealots out of poltics. He was smart and knew it was a voting base he could capitalize on. Poltics has never been the same since.

As for Dubya - almost nothing about him fits your conservative definition. If you weren't so stubborn and closed-minded, you would be willing to acknowledge that. ;) :)

Would say GW has conservative values--been married to same wife and don't believe he'd had to fire up any cigars.

As for as his platform--
- he is for lower taxes

--said his primary job was to protect america--not change it

--can't say he's been floppin on issues every time the media becons

--but rather they go through list of conservative values
can you give me just one liberal aspect of GW.

I can think of one--and if you remember I read him the rights over it.

By your definition of conservative - someone who lowers taxes is NOT cnservative. Any CHANGE is not conservative. Lowering taxes, invading countries, changing laws are NOT conservative according your very own definition.

if you go by the recent elections in germany and france, liberal administrations were kicked to the curb.....

and blair`s replacement,by all accounts,is very similar to blair...a liberal, but strong on defense and iraq....

You guys are missing the point entirely on what has occured in Europe. You think the new administrations are conservative like our brand of conservatives - but they are far from that. It's been entirely based on economic policy. Countries like France and Germany had stagnant economies and voted to change that. They've adopted more market style policies and opened up more to globaliziation - rather than remain protectionist as they had been for a long time. IT DOES NOT EVEN REMOTELY MEAN THEY ARE EMBRACING OUR OVERALL BRAND OF CONSERVATISM. They are still very liberal countries socially, militarily, and especially in terms of approval of our actions In Iraq. If you just do even a little research you'll understand. These elections are 99% based on economy.
